I just rebuilt and moved my two portfolio sites from @framer to @Cloudflare using my iPhone & before getting out of bed. Claude code on my desktop via the iPhone app saving £840per year - 2.5hours work.

Weird everyone in comments agreeing. They probably are not asking for shorter answers or bullet point lists but I love chat! Especially conversational voice chat !
I think we're going to see a new wave of interest in usability. Chat is hard on the brain. Total opposite of what Don Norman wrote about. 100% holding in your head, remembering things, special modes, etc. Nobody wants the stuff in their kitchen to be in a different place each time they walk in. System of record + recognizable display are not going away. What's new is how fluidly we can change state WITHIN those as users.

This eating out analogy is the best I’ve heard
my dad replaced quickbooks with codex a few weeks ago. he's not the type to vibe code. he's not tech savvy and he's very impatient. if something doesn't work right away, he's done. trust me when i say if he can make his own software, anyone can. so yeah, saas is dead. but at the same time… i’m shocked by how many of my most ai pilled friends have switched from tracking with claude to using my food tracker. they are also people who've vibe coded dozens of their own apps for daily use. why aren't they making their own?? i keep coming back to the old metaphor that apps are like restaurants. there are millions of them, and it's cheaper and (sometimes) faster to cook at home. but sometimes you're too lazy to cook. and sometimes it really is cheaper and better to eat out. and every once in a while you'll pay a little more for the experience: the ambiance, the craft, or just to see what the hype is about. saas is dead. but i think there's still an appetite for great apps.

So are they just called ‘Crispys’ now then?

Revolut: Europe's most valuable startup ($200B) just showed the world its AI strategy. Every company will end up copying it. At the start of this year, Revolut leaned on the frontier labs. Its 2,000 engineers used Claude Code and Codex, and some burned $1,000 to $10,000 a month each. The bills kept climbing, and the returns weren't there. So Revolut switched its default to an open-source model called GLM. All it needs is GPUs, which it rents from Together AI. The results, by Revolut's own count: - The bill is about a tenth of what it paid OpenAI and Anthropic - Engineers get unlimited tokens instead of spending caps - Coding time is down 60% and lead time is down 70% That's the chart below. Revolut still uses Claude and GPT, but only as "the exception," for the tasks they do best. Everything else runs on open source. So here's the question I keep coming back to: how many use cases can companies really justify sending to frontier models? My answer is very few. Plenty of companies still route everything to OpenAI and Anthropic today. For how long? I think open source ends up handling the vast majority of corporate AI work, and frontier models get a short list of the hardest jobs. That's a problem for labs whose revenue forecasts assume unlimited growth. If you appreciate unpopular takes, follow me @m0xt_ for more.

And we don't even get to own it at the end lol
as someone who works in the software industry in britain, i can't believe there are contracts and estimates like this. it seems getting these government contracts is incredibly lucrative in the uk, because the amounts are absolutely insane. £1.7bn to £4.4bn for hmrc's customer system? pre ai that's a crazy number. post ai it's still crazy. for a fraction of the cost you could hire britain's top 50 engineers and pay them £300k a year. over 15 years that's £225m. it would cost less and be way better than what will come out of this. put the rest into an ai lab and you'd have one of the best funded in europe. but no, it's an hmrc crm system lol.

On this Halloween day here’s a video from Scottish farmer (fermer) @standupfarmer. In case any non-Scots speakers are struggling to understand it, I’ve added subtitles which will probably definitely help.

I wonder how many others would speak there truth off air ?
An Israeli actress was being interviewed but thought they were on commercial break so she started telling the truth about Israel only to find out afterwards they were live on air: “I’m no longer proud to be Israeli. It’s a terrible feeling. I’m ashamed of who we are as a people…Everything that is happening now is a result of the occupation: The religious coercion, the settler violence, the Jewish terrorism, and the arrogance. The minority [the Palestinians] have a right to fight for their freedom.”

The ranking members of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees have written a letter to President Trump asking whether he has been soliciting advice from Grok in order to help carry out his official duties as President of the United States. They also demanded that he preserve any prompts sent to Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, as well as outputs in response to those prompts, that were 'submitted to AI chatbots in carrying out your constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties.' The letter was provided by Politico.

today, we introduce a little mischief to the world. for four years, we’ve been brewing real brain cells on electrodes to understand how they compute. now, we’ve turned those discoveries into a video model anyone can use. from 0.5¢ a second, mischief 1 is at least 5x faster than its base and the cheapest image-to-video model on @fal and @OpenRouter. soon to be on @awscloud marketplace. it’s not a delusion anymore. biocompute is real, commercial and this is just the beginning. happy halloween.
