Please help - this could affect the availability of treatment for #ocd #bdd and related disorders in the future. These treatments are patchily available now but could be even less available in the future unless we emphasise the need for treatments beyond SSRI and generic cbt
NICE’s proposed OCD and BDD guidelines are a mess (in fact, the previous guidelines from 2005 were so much better!). Leaving out recommendations for what happens when initial treatment fails is a serious failure for the people who need help most. OCD Action, OCD-UK, Orchard OCD, The BDD Foundation and Maternal OCD are calling on NICE to include further treatment options in its updated guidelines. Patients need options, and clinicians need clear guidance. Please sign and share this petition to help ensure nobody is left behind: change.org/p/treatment-for-o…

Joubert syndrome-like hindbrain morphology (cerebellar hypoplasia with superior cerebellar dysfoliation and anterior mesencephalic cap dysplasia) in conjunction with blunting of the preolivary sulci and selectively reduced caudate volume: think OPHN1! Brainstem DTI is useful.

As Program Chair for ASPNR27, I've spent the past year thinking about the science. Today I want to talk about the setting. We're bringing the 9th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology to the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, January 21–24, 2027. This is the Morris Lapidus landmark that has defined Miami glamour since 1954. Sinatra held court here. Goldfinger opened with a shot of its pool. And the famous bow-tie lobby floor is still there, right where it's always been. Swipe through: the lobby then and now, the pool that started it all, and the oceanfront rooms where you'll wake up each morning of the meeting. The setting is only part of the story. Everything that has made this meeting special will be back: the Core Curriculum, the case sessions, the named lectures, and the community that keeps people returning year after year. And over the next few weeks I'll be sharing some exciting additions: new session formats, new ways to learn, and new opportunities for trainees and early-career faculty to get on stage. Familiar in the best ways, with plenty that's new. Abstracts close September 18, 2026. I'd love to see your work in Miami. More at aspnr.org. @The_ASPNR #ASPNR27 #PediatricNeuroradiology #Neuroradiology #MiamiBeach #Fontainebleau #RadiologyMeeting

The amount of serious discourse I seem to have kicked off the last couple days is pretty wild. Nobody is banning med student research. Come on people. Clearly compulsory med student research is a big problem though. Should it be illegal, resulting in jail time? No, 3 days on the vascular surgery service should suffice. Btw, the jail thing was a joke. I hate clarifying jokes, but I’m genuinely concerned about the well being of some of my biggest PhD haters.

Saw this very nice post today with beautiful, labelled schematic illustration of the craniocervical junction. And I think having an understanding of these structures is very important. And most of us have visited these diagrams routinely throughout our career and our eyes strain to merge the color illustration to the actual scan in front of us. Maybe you feel this way-but I have to ask, with millions of actual CT and MRI images out there, can't we find a few images that show these ligaments very well without a such an nice but oversimplified illustration? I mean if someone shows you the stapes, do you need another diagram to understand and see it? I guess my point is- It's not that easy to identify these structures in the reading room using conventional CT and MRI. We understand where they are and what they do but we don't always "see" them. The tectorial membrane for instance is easily depicted on the illustration- should be easy, but in real life the membrane is fused with the ventral dura, and on a real MRI you can't distinguish the membrane from the dura. Yet we point to the MRI and tell the resident "there's the tectorial membrane". And most of us have little or no idea what our own sensitivity or specificity (how reliable we are) for recognizing injury to these individual structures. Often we have no feedback mechanism to know if our observations are correct. Most radiologists including me seem to rely on variety of secondary findings: the most important one is osseous alignment or osseous relationships. Soft tissue edema or fluid collections are other indicators that help build our conclusions regarding soft tissue injury. We love fractures of the cervical spine, and we love obvious dislocations or subluxations that indicate overt ligamentous injury like a complete disruption, but don't ask us to agree on individual ligamentous injury without contributory signs and other information. So if you feel uncomfortable calling out traumatic injuries to these "schematic" structures, you are not alone. I personally will be bookmarking this one.
SPIN Tweetorial Wednesday 🧵 Today, we journey to the craniocervical junction—where the skull, atlas and axis form a remarkably mobile yet highly vulnerable osteoligamentous unit. Let’s meet the ligaments that keep the skull attached to the spine.

Another little step toward better genotype-phenotype correlation in genetic deafness: pathogenic variants in ATP6V1B1 are another cause of the Pendred ear phenotype (bilat IP2 + EVA) in association with renal tubular acidosis!! Great job Sandeep ! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

As I take off from Sydney, I find myself reflecting on a superbly crafted #ISPNO2026, the International Society of Pediatric Neuro-Oncology meeting, which concludes today. It was a privilege to share my perspectives on the real-world impact of neuroradiology in pediatric neuro-oncology as an invited speaker, as well as to contribute to a Special Interest Group symposium on gliomatosis cerebri. I return home re-energised and more committed than ever to investing the time and effort needed to further elevate the field of pediatric neuroradiology. Our goal remains clear: to develop and validate standardised imaging tools that support better clinical decision-making and, ultimately, improve outcomes for affected children. Thank you to the organisers, speakers, and colleagues for an inspiring and stimulating meeting. I look forward to translating these discussions into meaningful progress.
