It’s not about the zoo tickets, it’s that at some point I looked up from my paycheck and realized OH, cool, I’m apparently funding the welfare state, Big Pharma, foreign countries, “Learing Centers,” government programs I’ve never heard of, Planned Fucking Parenthood, and seventeen layers of bureaucracy whose primary function appears to be emailing each other PDFs; meanwhile, I pay taxes when I earn money, taxes when I spend money, taxes to employ people, taxes on property I ALREADY OWN, taxes go up every year anyway, the school district discovers another $75,000,000 it absolutely cannot survive without, and if I so much as raise my hand and ask whether maybe, possibly, perhaps somebody could spend slightly less money, I am informed that I hate teachers, children, puppies and probably literacy, and NOW after financing civilization itself I’m also supposed to smile and subsidize someone’s trip to see the giraffes. Know what I mean?

The Sunrise Movement is more effective at electing Republicans than the Minnesota GOP
🚨KSTP confirmed that the Sunrise Movement was responsible. There is now a direct link from Amy Klobuchar, Amy’s mega-funder and friend Alex Soros, and the near assault on Lisa Demuth by this group.

Every time I start showing the dots of corruption, someone attacks me personally. Ironically, last year it was Ms. wilson. She, quite literally, followed me around the city. The personal attacks almost always end up coming from someone who is on the take. Without fail. 🤷‍♀️🎭 Time will tell if anyone above my pay grade will pick up the story… ⏰
🤡. I’m pretty sure this is what activists would call “white washing”… Because our twin mouth breather is at it again… she somehow feels comfortable lecturing so many Black men. Is this 1920’s antebellum? 🤔 😷🎭 Today on The Becka Show: The DSA unmasked!

Minnesota’s AG is suing Refocus Recovery and founder Daniel Larson, alleging Refocus was a “sham” nonprofit created to funnel Medicaid money to his for-profit company Kyros. Nearly 3 years ago, our investigation first exposed the money flow. kare11.com/article/news/inve…

NOT FOR THE BRODCAST: We do a podcast about politics. We could not agree on when to start the podcast. We've recorded two episodes, but we already have our first blooper. @RealBillyGrant explains to @mbrodkorb how he gets "hyped" before recording.

I don’t know how the GOP works, likely the same as the DNC, but be very wary of people who have handlers. For example- Do we really think half of the children on the Minneapolis city council are independent thinkers? Do we really believe they were plucked from obscurity from some high school class and sent on their way like some super hero origin story? Or that they happened by a flyer at a university to “get involved”? No. They were picked because they could be CONTROLLED and electable. It is a tale as old as time. Go ahead and read Peggy’s origin story: wellstone training, “inspired” to run for the school board… it’s all the same. And when you know who the puppet masters are all I can say is HARD PASS.
She’s one of the least intelligent people running for office I’ve ever seen. Maybe the least. It’s painful.

Omg she is still going 😭 She says she is proud of her 6% campaign. And she says a fellow DFL Leader is “not the brightest crayon in the box” which I’m sure the Code of Conduct Committee will say is A-OK.
Lmao, Latonya is having an epic crash out. Latonya is a State DFL Officer and a voting member of the Democratic National Committee.

People always ask: "How do you argue with conservatives about politics without losing your mind?" Simple: I've been doing it my whole life. Meet my friend, Kenneth Hartley. We just had our 40th high school reunion. Kenny votes red – and always has. I vote blue – and always have. We debate. We learn from each other. We're better for knowing each other. We grew up figuring out how to make it work. We can still do that today – but it's up to each of us to make that choice. Voluntarily. Disagreement doesn't have to mean dehumanization. We have to choose connection over contempt. That's the only way this country works. Read the full story on my Substack - vanjones.substack.com/p/40-y…

Anders was a prosecutor under Joe Biden and also served Obama and Bush and Trump. He demonstrated that faithful execution of the law is more important than politics. Nobody should want a prosecutor who puts political considerations ahead of legal considerations.
The very bizarre moment where Cedrick Frazier tries to diminish Anders Folk’s resume by claiming that the U.S. Attorney isn’t a “prosecutor”

A very good follow, 10/10 recommend. The more you know, the more you realize the American food system is so fucked.
The soy sauce packet in your takeout bag isn't soy sauce. The biggest maker, Kari-Out in New Jersey, lists water, salt, hydrolyzed soy and corn protein, caramel color and sodium benzoate. No fermentation, no brewing. It's made in a couple of days by boiling defatted soy meal in hydrochloric acid, neutralizing it, then adding color and corn syrup so it looks and tastes close enough. A lot of the bottles on the grocery shelf are the same thing. Kikkoman and the Japanese government went to the UN food standards body years ago and asked that the chemical version not be allowed to use the name soy sauce. The hydrolyzed protein industry and the USDA pushed back and it stayed. The brewed ones say naturally brewed on the label. If the bottle doesn't say it, it isn't.

Organic Farmer here. I found an old 2012 invoice book yesterday. Was selling salad to stores for $5.50 a lb and restaurants $6 a lb. I just this year raised my price to $6.75 a lb. Some produce items hadn’t increased at all. Or why farmers never take vacations.

This is beyond horrific. The U.S. just deported someone to Haiti who came to America at 6 years old. Now he’s stuck in a country gripped by gang violence where he doesn’t have family or any connections. And for what? What are we even doing here?

Obviously this is dumb because Cohen’s entire routine is caricature, and if you enjoyed it in the past there’s no reason to get all precious about it now. But that’s not actually what bothers me about him. If you watch his movies, the main butt of the joke is rarely the person or group he’s impersonating—it’s not Kazakhs in Borat or gay people in Brüno, for example, except incidentally. His real target is the normal people he fools in his interviews. This is actually what makes Cohen’s work more interesting than straight caricature, and also more genuinely disturbing to me. If you really wanted to mount an interesting critique of him, instead of this bargain-bin automated stock chatter belched up semi-consciously by social media drones, it would be this: The real nature of Cohen’s comedy, the thing that gives it its lingering bite, is inverse caricature. The people who really end up depicted as a childish finger-paint cartoon of their worst selves are the chuds and the rubes whom he proposes to fool and expose. Some of them are public figures behaving in truly abominable ways. Fair enough. But often they’re normal decent people who don’t spend their whole lives inhaling media commentary and don’t have anything like Cohen’s knowing sophistication to protect themselves from looking foolish. Often they’re very nice to what they think is an odd stranger. Often they reach out with enormous grace. You get the impression that in 99 per cent of the actual interactions they’re called upon to perform, these people are vastly superior morally to Cohen, and probably to you or me. Some of them are probably better people than us. But Cohen’s huge wealth and fame depends on catching them out in their blind spots and limitations, which are more vulnerable than the ones we in the know have learned to hide with our faddish affectations. We all have such limitations, and yes, they’re always funny, but is it a little petty and small of Cohen to constantly ridicule them in others while making himself the knowing hero, the genius of comedy? I don’t know, I laugh too. But it makes me a little queasy. That is the sort of thing we could have an interesting conversation about if we had a culture instead of a pre-fabricated set of modal stock outrages prepared for us via algorithm.
Backlash is growing against Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G following the release of the first trailer for “Ali G: Who Iz I?”: • Critics accuse Ali G, seen wearing fake dreadlocks and a Rastafarian hat and discussing his desire to be an “absent” father, of being an “outdated” and “racist” caricature • @newscord_org launched a campaign urging cinemas worldwide not to screen the film, accusing Cohen of using satire as a “cover for enforcing racist stereotypes” • The site posted a reply from Picturehouse Cinemas saying it would not screen the upcoming mockumentary to fuel its narrative, but Variety understands the exhibitor’s response was standard and no decision has been made Read the full report by @alexritman: wp.me/pc8uak-1lHG6D
