I agree completely. I’ve been radicalized by Musk. Ideological disputes seem so trivial in the face of a man who is a kind of super villain in how much he has declared open war on the concept of truth. Few things could make me respect a human being less than this.

When @Cedigaz_SG says #LNG demand reached historic levels in Q4, what it’s really saying is that LNG supply reached historic levels and spot prices dropped through the entire period. What does this tell us about the effect of this incremental supply relative to gas demand? #ONGT
Highlights from just released @Cedigaz_SG Report: 4Q23 LNG demand reached historic record of 102.4 MT 💪 with the US 🇺🇸 the world’s largest LNG exporter in 2023 & the leading force behind new supply! #LNG #USLNG #ONGT cedigaz.org/global-lng-trade…

People often voice the concern that wind and solar energy will drive up the need for short term balancing, inflating balancing reserves (and hence, costs).
For good reason: holding everything else fixed, more wind/solar means larger forecast errors and more balancing needs.
Yet, history tells a different story. In the past 15 years, Germany increased wind + solar capacity five-fold. Not only did balancing reserves increase less than five-fold - they *diminished* by 50%.
That's what I have dubbed the "German Balancing Paradox".
Why that surprise? Closer international TSO cooperation, but also better forecasts & trading. Driven by better incentives.
That is what the imbalance (settlement) price is all about.
I think there is a bigger lesson here: "holding everything else fixed" may not be a wise assumption when assessing the future.

It should come as no surprise that the Sea Surface Temperatures in these regions have spiked after coal plants and ships have reduced their sulphur emissions over the past decades.

It feels great that the German Chancellor is finding these clear words and it also moves me personally how emotionally @Bundeskanzler is reacting to the Putin friends. Thank you, Olaf Scholz, for defending us so resolutely!
Scholz’s indignation is absolutely righteous.
What a difference a year makes.

I think it's time to regulate Russian gas imports into the EU, both pipeline and LNG.
(Actually, it has been time for two years at least. But better now than never.)

Really enjoyed the responses to this. My own, focusing exclusively on my specialist subject of energy and immediate steps to tackle the crisis, is below. /1
