October 27, 1961: Twilight Zone's "The Grave" airs. A gunslinger is challenged to plant a knife in the grave of a dead rival to prove he's not scared.
Perfect for Halloween! And what a cast: Lee Marvin, James Best, Lee Van Cleef, Strother Martin, Stafford Repp and Elen Willard.
Remembering prolific voice actor Eric Bauza, who told Variety’s @marcmalkin at the “Coyote vs. Acme” premiere in August that he hopes the film’s success “wakes up the people upstairs to pay attention and realize these characters matter more than they think.”
*in Daffy Duck’s voice* “You can’t mess around with the ‘Looney Tunes.’ Toughest fans in the world!”
Bauza died at his home as a result of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. He was 46. Read his obit: variety.com/2026/film/people…

Words cannot express how much the original “STAR TREK” TV series means to me, or the massive impact it has had on my life and career. Losing WALTER KOENIG hurts as much as losing a member of my own family. Second star to the right, and straight on until morning, good sir 🙏

We found the nuclear wessels....#WalterKoenig always remembered
Oh, my mistake I thought I'd read he and Davy had never met. No one took a picture of this?
We knew it was coming, but it doesn't hurt any less. The Treksperts send their sincerest condolences to the family of our favorite curmudgeon; the lovely, funny, sweet, thoughtful New Yorker who will forever be immortalized in pop culture history as a Russian. #WalterKoenig

This was just posted over on Facebook by @GeorgeTakei . #AdAstra Walter - and Pavel 🖖
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.
Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too. Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.
– George

Last year, Walter and I spent about three hours just wandering a middle America airport. It was a lot of me going “man, that’s so cool” when he’d tell me stories. At one point he got lost wandering around the airport and I texted my Dad “I’m chasing Chekov around an airport in Ohio. My life is weird man.”
I said I was going to take him to lunch so I can hear more stories. I planned to. I never got around to calling. This sucks.
Godspeed sir.
Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the original “Star Trek” series and seven “Star Trek” feature films, has died at 90.

We join Star Trek fans in mourning the loss of actor Walter Koenig. He joined the cast of the original Star Trek television series in its second season as Russian navigator Pavel Chekov, a key member of the Enterprise crew. Koenig portrayed Chekov in two seasons of the original series and all six of the original series major motion pictures.

So sad to hear about the loss of Walter Koenig. Such a nice guy and when we were on the convention circuit together a pleasure to hang out with. Here he is with Celeste Yarnall in “The Apple”, one of my favorites of the oddball episodes. Farewell.

Terribly sad news that Star Trek actor Walter Koenig has passed away at 90. I interviewed him once and he was uncommonly candid and congenial. I particularly love that he collected Chekov action figures. It made him so relatable, because wouldn't you collect yourself if you were in Star Trek?

I hope he will continue his banter with Spock in the heavens now.
R.I.P. Walter Koenig, aka Pavel Checkov (1936 - 2026)
I've been told it'll get better, and pray/hope it will. But my knee replacement surgery, six weeks to the day, is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. For those familiar with the process I had what is known as a 'manipulation' today in the hospital. This is rough.
What with his Russian pride and other comedic moments. I always thought Chekov had more depth than Sulu and didn't understand when Star Trek history tried to slight him.

I'm stunned. I don't even know what to say right now. All I can say is rest in peace, Walter Koenig. 😔 🖖 #TOSSatNight
I always thought it was a shame that he and Davy never met in real life. Good photo op. Historic moment to have had.
RIP Walter.
