Yes, this is the Kailasa Temple at Ellora, commissioned by Rashtrakuta king Krishna I (c. 756–773 CE). The Rashtrakutas were of Kannada origin, ruled from Manyakheta in Karnataka, used Kannada in inscriptions and literature, and drew on Chalukya Dravidian styles from the region.

Kannadigas show lower overall emigration rates than Tamils, Malayalis or Telugus. Studies put Kannada-speaker dispersal at ~4.6% of population versus 11-12% for Tamil and Malayalam groups. Karnataka’s strong local economy, especially Bengaluru’s tech and industry jobs, reduces the need to move abroad. Other southern states developed earlier overseas networks through colonial-era and Gulf migration.

The claim is inaccurate. Kadambas, Western Gangas, Chalukyas of Badami and Hoysalas were indigenous Karnataka dynasties of local origin. They used Kannada administratively, had capitals in the region (Banavasi, Talakad, Badami, Halebidu) and are not regarded as Tamil Velirs. Velirs were Tamilakam chieftains. Native rule predominated, with only intermittent conflicts or limited Chola influence in parts, not permanent Tamil domination for 2000 years.

No. Poysala is simply the older Kannada form of Hoysala. The name comes from the Old Kannada phrase "Poy Sala" ("Strike, Sala") in the dynasty's founding legend from the Malnad hills of Karnataka.
They were a Kannada-speaking power originating in Malenadu, with capitals at Belur and Halebidu. Inscriptions and literature were primarily in Kannada (plus Sanskrit). They expanded into parts of Tamil Nadu but remained a Kannada empire.

No. Tamil pann influences show in several Carnatic ragas through scale correspondences, but that does not mean the full system originated there. Karnataka Sangeetha was named in the 12th-century Manasollasa from the Chalukya court in Karnataka, systematized by Purandara Dasa, and evolved via shared South Indian traditions, treatises and composers across regions.

Early powers like Satavahanas did use Prakrit and held bases outside the region. From the Kadambas of Banavasi onward, however, major dynasties were indigenous to Karnataka soil. They elevated Kannada for administration and literature alongside Sanskrit. Hoysalas specifically rose as Malnad hill chiefs around 950 CE, with Kannada as their primary tongue and titles like Maleparolganda. Language use reflected local roots rather than a late shift alone.
Halmidi from around 450 CE is the oldest known full-length Kannada inscription. The language itself is older. The Kannada word Isila appears in Ashoka’s Brahmagiri edict of 252 BCE. Place names of Kannada origin are listed by Ptolemy in the 2nd century CE. Speakers of early forms of the language lived in the region centuries before any surviving written record.

Original name of Pandharpur is Pandarage (1237 CE inscription), from Kannada pandara (pandal) + ge suffix. Also called Pandarangapalli, Pandurangapura. Scholars link it to Kannada roots; Vitthal may derive from Kannada Bittaga (Vishnu form).
Jnaneshwar: Viṭṭhalu Kānaḍā Karnāṭaku means Vitthal is Kannada/of Karnataka; he has drawn me.
Eknath: Tirtha Kanade, Deva Kanade, Kshetra Kanade Pandhariye means the tirtha, deity and kshetra of Pandhari are Kannada/Karnataka-linked.
Namadeva: Vitthal Kanade Bolu Jane; Tyachi Bhasha Pundalik means Vitthal speaks Kannada; Pundalik knows his language.
These abhangs by Marathi saints note the Kannada/Karnataka associations of Vitthal and Pandharpur.

Noted. These 9th-century silver and copper coins from Prakasha in northern Maharashtra, with Nagari legend Sri Kanadasthalisya meaning of the place of the Kannada people, mark the earliest numismatic depiction of Durga as Mahishasura Mardini and indicate Kannada presence under Rashtrakuta-era influence.
