Way before AI, judges were getting citations wrong. After AI as well. Want to see the worst offenders at getting citations wrong? syfert.com/frequent-miscites…

I’ve consulted for multiple divisions of Microsoft over the years, and I’ve never encountered a bigger clusterfuck of a company. It got better under Satya, but not by much.
Endless silos, fiefdoms, backstabbing, rent-seekers, and >50 years of cruft. Nasty place.

Exactly.
Starlink’s terms have remained consistent as a civilian system, not a means of killing. Violation of those terms will result in end of service.
Starshield use is a decision of the US government.
End of story.

Electrons in a metal are supposed to roam free, yet Columbia just caught electron waves trapped in place inside a metal called Pd5AlI2.
In this metal, every escape path is open but the paths cancel each other out by quantum interference.
Light has been pulling this trick for over a decade, and this is the first time anyone has seen electrons do it.

Claude /remote-control is becoming one reason to prefer Claude CLI versus Codex CLI sometimes, since it is too convenient. I'm not sure why @OpenAIDevs is lagging on that, many open issues and requests, and does not look too hard to add.

one of my greatest hopes for the future is that this is true across the board for all technology and we end up with mad scientists running around with zany inventions like freeze rays and shrink devices and cloning machines and no one has any clue how anyone else's stuff works
increasingly concerned that ai is revealing the mathematical world as negatively curved. instead of everyone wandering about in idea-space and clustering around the same famous conjectures (local positive curvature), ai is pushing out the boundaries rapidly and revealing that the space of mathematical ideas is ~hyperbolic (negative curvature). though this means there's lots left to discover, it also means that small separations between people/agents will lead to wandering alone.
we may be emerging into an idea-space where there's so much to see and do but everyone is alone in a private heaven, unable to share their subtle joys with others...

An attorney known for talking shit about public defenders succeeds in persuading a PD client to hire him for a very, very serious assault case. The PD had negotiated a cap of 10 yrs to serve. The “real lawyer” instead pleads the client guilty straight up, no cap. Judge imposes 13 yrs.
You don’t always get what you pay for. In the legal field, you very often get unscrupulous grifters whose business model revolves around exploiting suffering and fear in order enrich themselves, with very little concern about outcomes or the well-being of their clients.
