you should have the option to force counties to buy your property at their appraised value if they aren't willing to reduce your proposed taxable value

the us airline industry is absolutely horrific & i can’t believe the american ppl continue tolerate this nonsense. it’s an insult to human dignity. we should allow full competition from foreign airlines without restriction for domestic travel immediately & without hesitation.

The fire department inspected the entire space, certified that the buildings fire sprinkler, alarm, egress and life safety were all in compliance. They still shut the business down. We had a certificate of occupancy. Get out of Houston while you can.
As a landlord, my tenants can’t survive here any more. I’ve encouraged them to shut down and move to Miami or Dallas, and work in cities that want their creative energy and talent. Shame on you @HoustonTX @whitmire_john

One of my tenants received a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy for tonight. A fire department official showed me an email where the “higher ups” instructed them to shut down the business for tonight, regardless of any permits in place.

The city of Houston hates small businesses. Houston is a corrupt government who selectively applies laws against those who don’t “donate” to the correct officials. If you are considering moving to Houston or starting a business here, don’t. Go where you are welcomed.

1 homicide per day and 140,000 homeless, but the City of Houston spends its resources fighting my tenant to the death because he operates under a banquet hall occupancy instead of a bar occupancy (no one can explain the material difference)

Beware: the @united app now has a sneaky online request for you to change your flight to one that’s less booked, and makes it look like a regular check in when it’s a total flight change. I accidentally hit “confirmed” and was placed on two later flights and then spent an hour having to reschedule to my original flights.

🫡 (A.D.L.E) 🇨🇴🐅

Jeff Bezos just identified the most expensive bureaucratic failure in the American economy. It fits in one sentence. Bezos: “Why does it take months and months and months to get a building permit? It doesn’t make any sense.” It doesn’t make any sense because a building code is not a judgment call. It is an algorithm. And algorithms should be executed by machines. Bezos: “Miami should have an AI application that reads your building permit for a new house or a new building and it should give you a yes or a no in ten seconds.” Ten seconds. Not three months. Not six weeks. Not whenever the reviewer clears their backlog. Bezos: “If the answer is no, it should tell you the six things you have to change to get a yes.” No ambiguity. No interpretation. No bureaucratic delay dressed up as due diligence. Just a deterministic feedback loop compressing months of institutional friction into a single automated decision. We are competing against sovereign adversaries deploying gigawatt data centers and scaling physical infrastructure at a pace that does not stop to ask permission. And we are losing ground to countries that never needed to. The AI arms race is not only fought in data centers. It is fought in the gap between when someone decides to build something and when the government allows it. Every month this system runs on biological speed is a month that cannot be recovered. The governments that integrate AI into their core civic functions will trigger a wave of physical development the old world could never produce. The ones that refuse will still be reviewing the same forms a decade from now. While the cities that said yes are already living inside the future they built. The bottleneck was never ambition. It was always the man holding the rubber stamp deciding when ambition was allowed to begin. And the stamp is just a rubber version of the algorithm that should have been running this whole time.

Houston let us down
EaDo residents got the shaft at city council. Council voted 14-1 to put a shelter for the most potentially dangerous homeless. Even their own councilman Joaquin Martinez betrayed them.

Arguing about the color of the bike shed is fun and low stakes while feeling like work Whenever you find yourself doing that, always try to reframe: instead of finding the local maximum in this area, what is the global maximum and how do we get there?

It will always be insane to me that Israel had to give concessions to a terrorist group in exchange for the return of civilian hostages, and the world treated it like it was a normal and morally defensible means of diplomacy. Like “yeah, Hamas invaded your territory, raped a bunch of women, killed more than 1,000 of your civilians, and kidnapped more than 200 innocent people, who were then kept in underground rat tunnels for over a year—but what are *you* going to offer in order to secure their return?” Maybe it’s just me but it feels absolutely bizarre, like a completely fictitious moral equivalence, and it will never sit right with me.
Hostage surrounded by monsters terrorizing and taunting her to the last second after kidnapping her and holding her hostage for 471 days. Hamas are pure evil.
