"In the eyes of certain people in power, a single book may simply be a statistic, but in reality, a single book may be the only lifeline accessible to a student. A single book may be everything to a student, and a single ban could leave them in shambles."

While we’re at it, this is EXACTLY what book banning looks like. Parents 100% always have the right to opt out their OWN child out of reading something in school. But to try and remove a Ruby Bridges children’s book from ALL our elementary schools is so….arrogant, at best.
Replying to @Moms4LibertyWC
Right, the book Ruby Bridges wrote *specifically* for young kids isn’t actually ok until you’re in high school according to them. Because they know better than Ms. Bridges! It’s amazing!

Names are so important to one’s identity. Don’t take that away from someone because it takes you a little longer to correctly learn their name. 5/5

Working with Director of Schools Adrienne Battle, @JohnCooper4Nash’s commitment of $24M of CARES Act funds to provide devices for our students is a massive step forward for equity. Thank you, Mayor, for making our students a priority. When our students grow, our city grows, too.
It's time to bridge the digital learning divide. I have directed $24 million of our federal CARES Act relief fund to provide every MNPS student in Nashville with a free laptop and mobile internet hotspots for those who do not have internet access. More: asafenashville.org/updates/f…

In order to keep every Tennessean safe during this pandemic, I am recommending that schools remain closed through the end of this school year.
We’re working with @TNedu and local leaders to ensure there is flexibility for districts to complete critical year-end activities.

Teachers and librarians: pretty set here at home with copies of my books, but could you use one for a student? I’d like to send out 20 signed copies. RT and comment to enter - and thanks for all you're doing!

If it were that simple, she wouldn’t have an IEP. I take your larger, point, Pernille, that kids who were already struggling have even bigger hurdles to overcome with distance learning. And how do teachers do their jobs and take care of their kids?
