Our teaching hospitals are able to do this. May not be efficient but able to
How many hospitals in Nigeria can assemble a surgical team within 30 minutes at 2 a.m. to manage a life threatening stab wound to the neck?
Such an emergency may require immediate resuscitation, experienced surgeons, anaesthetists, theatre nurses, blood transfusion services and a functional operating theatre.
While healthcare workers must remain accountable for the quality of care they provide, we must also acknowledge the challenges of inadequate manpower, infrastructure and emergency preparedness.
Improving emergency care requires investment, better organisation, training and accountability at every level.
We need to move beyond blaming individuals and focus on building systems that can save lives, 24 hours a day.

You might have heard it many times. I am telling you again. Equity investing, especially for retail investors, is not a game or some test run. You are investing in businesses.
Although your current invested capital may not be high enough, the idea is that you consistently deploy funds in the market over time, whilst you enjoy higher returns.
Of course, there is volatility. There are risks, and that is consistent with the potential returns. This is why there are certain criteria to be ticked before entering the market. If you are young, with stable and/or rising income, and low liquidity needs, you may want to seriously consider stocks.
That said, I know it is very sweet when you see individual stocks doing strong returns. Say 20%, 30%, 2x, 3x. The temptation is to look at those returns and begin to think that is what you should be earning on your investments.
But those trends are very unusual and they are hardly repeatable. The cycle between FY 2024 and FY 2026 is an adjustment period. We won’t see it every day.
Post-COVID, the NGX has compounded at 36% every year on average. So if you want to have a fair sense of the returns to expect from stocks, you can work with the 30% historical return, and also have in mind that the future can be wildly different.
The point here is that you should not build your expectations around the returns of a few individual stocks, especially during an unusual market cycle. There will be periods of strong returns, periods of weak returns, and periods when the market does practically nothing.
This is also why I think retail investors should not obsess about a particular stock. Just stay disciplined and buy equity mutual funds. You can consistently deploy funds into the market without having to worry about which individual stock will deliver the next 2x or 3x.
Those who do individual stocks expect to get rewarded for their research and extra efforts. They also do not mind taking directional risks. You may not have that capacity.
And you really do not have to take those risks to participate in the equity market.

Learning that you mustn’t see every patient is a very great skill.
Once the patient isn’t comfortable with you or asks for someone else, send them there ASAP.
In the words of BRF I think, He said “May our loyalty not be tested”
Kar bar maganan kawai…
Malam Nasir El-Rufai’s travails, regardless of what you think of his politics, offer a frightening lesson in what becomes of friendship when the going gets tough. As someone who’s a sucker for friendship, I find the thought of turning my back on friends because they have fallen on hard times repugnant.
Even in this election season, I have friends on the other side of the political divide, and I have trained myself never to cross the line that would destroy the friendships we’ve built over the years. One of my dearest friends is the son of a major presidential candidate, and I would consider sacrificing that bond over our political allegiances an unthinkable betrayal.
It’s one thing to disagree over your political choices and still gather to laugh at each other over a pot of tea or a round of shisha. It’s another to join in the humiliation and destruction of your friends. Either way, our prayer, as Fashola once said, is that our loyalty is never tested.

Resource constraints are not an excuse for substandard medical practice. You cannot explain your way out in court.
