We're poor but at least our Iphones and Samsung phones can share a charger now.

capitalism will not be tolerated in my household.
i gave my 8 year old son hansen €25 to make some handmade bracelets to sell at the local market, with the sole condition that i manage the profits for him. his bracelets were a massive success, he sold 15 of them for €10 each. €150 in one day for an 11 year old!
after the day was over, i handed my son hansen his profits. hansen looked at me strange and said, “papa, where did all the money go? this is only €12.”
i looked at him and began to explain. “hansen, it would be unfair to the people around you if you made that much money on such little effort. they are entitled to your profits just as much as you are.”
frustrated, hansen asked “well can you at least tell me where the money went to?”
i took a deep breath. “ok hansen… here we go. €40 went towards supporting bracelet businesses that are less successful than yours. €20 went to a feasibility study on future youth bracelet taxation. €15 to offset your effect on climate change. €40 because regulators were worried by your level of success. and i’m keeping €23 so i can treat your mother to a glass of water with ice tonight.”
hansen stood there, tears in his eyes.
“papa, what did i get then?”
i smiled.
“hansen, you got the opportunity to participate.”
hansen gave me a hug. “i love being a europoor, papa.”
me too hansen. me too.

Europe has gotten very poor fast while America has only gotten richer in the last few years (especially after inflation)
EU GDP per capita for 2026 is projected to be $51,030/year
US GDP per capita for 2026 is projected to be $94,430/year!
US is almost double as rich as Europe now, and that widening gap has been relatively recent (since 2008)
And if you're in Europe you really are starting to feel it now, the services are very poor, but for American prices
I’ve been reading so many variations of this exact type of story and it’s blowing my mind how I never knew how drastic the differences are between European life and American life.
I thought we had around equal living situations but the reality from how real people are talking about it sounds like we don’t 😳 The air conditioning thing is wild to me. What kind of hotel is going to let you melt inside their building… that’s all so wild to me…
EDIT: I have never been to Europe, so I didn’t know. I thought we all live the same way 🤷🏽♀️

Dear europoor,
Thank you, but we are raising him in a traditional way so he wont be able to read or write ever.
All the best,
Wolfgang
