A colleague of mine lost her first child at eight months after the baby choked on milk. She asked for leave to mourn her baby. My then HOD, a very devoted Deeper Life member, told her, “Do you still need to mourn a baby that has died? If you had been closer to God, this wouldn’t have happened to you.” Everyone was shocked, but we kept quiet. Last month, the same HOD had a terrible accident. The department asked staff to contribute towards her treatment. Out of 85 staff members, only eight contributed. Then the woman who lost her baby wrote on the WhatsApp group: “Did she leave God? If she hadn’t left God, this wouldn’t have happened to her.”
