N95/FFP3 respirator masks must fit tightly to your face so air goes through the filter and does not leak in around it. This is similar to swim goggles that seal to your face to stop water coming in 👇

Do Covid infections weaken the immune system making you more vulnerable to other infections? Even covid infections that seem mild and don't kill you during the acute stage? Here's deaths caused by 'other viral diseases' as a share of all deaths here:

Children are 72% more likely to develop type 1 diabetes in the 6 months after a COVID infection. The virus can damage insulin-producing cells directly through ACE2 receptors, or trigger the immune system to destroy them. mdpi.com/2073-4409/10/12/359…

The CDC raised its benchmark for levels of the Covid virus in wastewater, adjusting a key metric for assessing the disease’s transmission. As a result, officials may now classify a level that once counted as high transmission as moderate instead. nbcnews.com/data-graphics/cd…

Outdated’ health policies surrounding Covid still pose a danger today, says U of C researcher Dr Mark Ungrin. We also hear from Dr David Keegan and Kerri Bowser and you’ll notice they all have masks on. Great modelling along with the messaging. #MaskUp

“Unfortunately, when Covid hit, there was very little attention paid to aerosol transmission as a means of Covid infecting from one person to another,” Ungrin said. “Warnings were provided by scientists, engineers, occupational health and safety...(1/🧵) ctvnews.ca/calgary/article/o…

This study should be retracted for a conclusion not supported by their own work: ❌Their claim: "HEPA filters don't work" ✅Claim actually supported by their study: "HEPA filters, sized much smaller than experts recommend, and not confirmed to be ON all the time, didn't provide a benefit" Here's why: HEPA FILTER SIZING ❌ they used a device with a CADR of <100 for the common area and <40 for bedroom ✅ To hit the air change target *minimum* where we would expect to see a benefit, you need CADR of 300 for every 500 sqft. (I can't calculate air exchanges b/c they don't publish room sizes, just CADR, *which is an immediate tip-off that they don't know what they're doing*. The study is so deep on epi, so these folks are detail oriented, but the fact they leave out some basic building science is really telling. They also don't report on BASELINE HVAC PERFORMANCE AND FILTRATION?!?!?! WHAT?!?! HEPA USE ❌ There were 5 filters in the communal area and they defined COMPLIANCE as 3 of 5 running (?!) and COMPLIANCE as filters being on at **20%** of the checks (?!) ✅ Um, for filtration devices to have any effect they...need to be turned on... ALSO: -"We have got one client which goes around and turns the one off that he sits nearest to" -"a resident urinated in the air filter" -"Interviewees reported that sometimes staff switched off or moved the HEPA filters" -11% of residents had other HEPA filters (some were in the **control** arm...!) MY BIGGER CONCERN: This is 1 of at least 3 studies I know of that are coming out where the team has no apparent expertise on the air quality side of the house (plenty of MDs and epis...), that *under-sized* the filtration relative to what experts would recommend, and then don't confirm the air filtration was even running continuously, and then claim "they don't work"
This is very disappointing — a large, robust, cluster-randomized trial in UK nursing homes found little evidence of benefit of air filtration on respiratory tract infections on these vulnerable residents, published in @JAMAInternalMed. Commentary below notes real world…

Particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers are so tiny that they can pass through your alveoli and enter your bloodstream, thereby affecting your cardiovascular system and even your entire body. Although the effects are not as immediate as those of COVID-19, long-term inhalation of excessive PM2.5 particles can, over time, increase the incidence of many diseases. The human body actually only takes in three things: air, food, and water. It's best to make sure all three are clean.

Our society has thrown away the process of risk management of Covid, and processes of risk management for other diseases and hazards will inevitably follow.
