Due to a strange happenstance, I saw Kill Bill Vol. 2 first, so I knew her daughter was alive when I saw Vol. 1 and it was a fascinating way to view the films. I wrote about it for @thespool back in 2019. thespool.net/features/kill-b…
Imagine going to see Kill Bill in theaters in 2003 and after 2 hours of the best movie you've ever seen you get fucking shot in the face with David Carradine's insane voice saying "is she aware her daughter is still alive?"

"Expect a kind of censorship-by-exclusion that takes its direction from Amazon’s need to sell Prime memberships and government contracts, not the needs of its viewers or the creative impulses of its storytellers," writes @SamuelHarwood3 for @thespool. thespool.net/features/what-j…

Heard it here first folks: DEN OF THIEVES 2: PANTERA might just be better than the original? Swaps the grim macho nihilism vibe of the first for a dudes-rock bromance featuring one of the most thrilling heists in recent memory. For @thespool: thespool.net/reviews/den-of-…

How did a nonpartisan awards speech by Jonathan Glazer, in which he honored a Holocaust resistance fighter, become the subject of "controversy?" I wrote for @thespool about @Variety's manufactured backlash of the speech and the "open letter:" thespool.net/features/jonath…

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER was a foundational part of my childhood. Netflix’s remake isn’t *awful*, but it’s what you’d get if you asked someone to recite the plot from memory- the broad strokes are there, but the details aren’t quite right. for @thespool: thespool.net/reviews/netflix…

#MadameWeb makes MORBIUS look like a masterpiece, a cynical brand exercise that wastes a cool idea (superhero film as suspense thriller) on AI-caliber dialogue and muddy visuals. Dakota Johnson wanders through this thing in a daze. For @thespool: thespool.net/reviews/madame-…

On a related note, I'm still EIC at @thespool which, while still immensely small, is always looking for fascinating and interesting pitches from solid writers. DM me for details on how and what to pitch!
So today I’ve been learning from many of my colleagues that the way forward for journalism is to publish really interesting stuff regularly so that people become fans & make a point of habitually visiting the website, and just give up on chasing clicks. I’m fine with that!
