The NBA trying to prevent random bench players from rigging their own unders has unfortunately provided sportsbooks and prediction markets with a gift. They can now say “we’ll take it one step further and remove all unders for the sake of compliance!” Now the side of the market that sharp players take is only accessible via market making APIs, and only by offering the over. So the pricing can creep higher, and the general public isn’t price sensitive enough to care. Market efficiency on these props will erode, and the general public will get screwed, all in the name of compliance. It’s super predatory and the league just handed this to them

If Tailgate keeps growing, the future looks bleak for pick sellers. DFS, Best Ball, and Survivor strategy will continue to be valuable, as will player projections, but simply telling people who you’re picking is less valuable now. If users can see who is winning and tail their picks for free, they have little incentive to pay for picks. As of now, I take most of my player props on other platforms, and that’s where our betting service has been crushing. So we still have lots of users for our betting membership, but in all honesty I could see Tailgate eventually having the best options for props too, and then you’d be able to see every bet I take for free
