Well said Jeremy Clarkson. F1 is so far removed nowadays to what made me fall in love with it.
Just been introduced to the world of warhammer.
Now I know where nerds spend all their money. Their prices are insane and kids love it
I’m guessing someone missed the basics of Microeconomics

Nope, that’s not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply.
Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a company’s cost ie supply.
Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Corporate profit taxes do not directly shift marginal costs but empirical studies show partial pass-through into higher consumer prices. Windfall taxes on oil and gas have deterred investment and production in practice despite theoretical efficiency on rents.

I thought we were doing this whole local thing.
It seems a rather centralised in Westminster version of local.
They’ve even moved Number 10 North to Westminster this week
Labour will sharply reduce funding for some of Britain’s most affluent councils and divert it to poorer areas, after Andy Burnham has promised to create “good growth in every postcode”.
Councils in the vales and shires will lose £61m of grant funding from central government over the next three years, while urban areas will see an uplift of £2.9bn, according to ONS figures ⤵️

As I understand it, the argument against Rosebank is that it’s oil (for export) not gas (for domestic consumption). So what’s the argument against new gas fields, apart from a manifesto that’s pretty clearly outdated at this point?

On the day the so-called national conversation was launched no minister was made available to converse with, until Streeting ambushed by journos. But Mr Burnham was on. Gogglebox. So there’s that.
Replying to @afneil
The strategic defence report recommended the Government had a national conversation with the public about the possible threats we face & how we should all be more resilient It’s a sensible approach & they are acting on the recommendation in the report.
The online safety bill has not made harmful content less accessible at all as was announced by Ofcom last week.
This week you can’t see the details from the department for energy because you haven’t shown proof of id.
Seems to be doing exactly as the government wanted

He using a national cancer charity to boost his own political image, not help people with cancer. He is on with the Labour Mayor of Liverpool. Strangely, other political parties were excluded by C4. Insane to not understand why people find that divisive, corrupt and insulting

HE is the fucking Prime Minister, he surely could do something more meaningful for cancer than appearing on TV. Though he'd probably just supply some drinking vases.

The Laffer Curve strikes again. Rachel Reeves’s absurd increases to stamp duty have backfired after tax receipts from property sales above £5m fell by £541m in the 18 months following her 2024 budget when she raised the second-home stamp duty surcharge to 5%.
Data from estate agents Knight Frank show that in the 18 months subsequent to the budget, the number of sales above £5m dropped by 14% from 2,569 to 2,208, when compared with the 18 months before the budget. Of course it is not just the stamp duty that is lost but also the economic activity that accompanies the property transactions.
Reeves has just signed up to the Chartwell Speakers agency to sell speeches for money. Surely for anyone to buy a speech from her is a badge of idiocy?
Martin Lewis on his podcast this week has spent 10 minutes talking over an Expert trying to get them to say that buying a gilt ladder is not investment & is the same as savings.
After years of him saying he can’t talk about investing, he starts with this. 😬

Stock up on food? Keep paper records of absolutely everything? My mum’s been on this for YEARS.
Excellent results from the Online Safety Act.
Doing the exact opposite of what it says on the tin

I thought it was suspicious that Ofcom's report didn't include any charts or numbers, so I've dug into Ofcom's underlying data, and it's even worse than it first appears.
Exposure to porn went from 11.0% to 12.9% among 11–17s, suicide or self-harm from 12.5% to 13.7%, and any “primary priority” content from 29.6% to 32.2%.
None of these changes is statistically significant, but they all point the wrong way.
