I wasn’t gonna chime in on this, but since it’s gone on this long, and since literally *nobody* has the right take on this, I will. There is a timeline here. • Abdul gives victory speech where he takes cheap shots at Rogers, says “may we never see the likes of you in this state ever again” • Rogers releases statement acknowledging the results, but does not congratulate Abdul • Reporters ask Abdul if Rogers has made the traditional concession call • Abdul accurately responds that he has not • Abdul’s supporters call Rogers a sore loser Most candidates would not make the traditional concession call to congratulate their opponent if said opponent had said the things that Abdul said in his victory speech. That’s just human nature. When I saw Abdul make those remarks in his speech, I said to myself, “okay, so clearly it’s not important to him that he receives the traditional concession call. Got it.” You can say whatever you want in your victory speech, but if you want to actually receive a gracious concession call from your opponent, then you have to actually… be gracious in victory. What a concept.
