The side of freight nobody talks about | Dooner Show EP27 Freight loves to call itself a relationship business. But what happens when the relationships, rules, and expectation aren’t the same for everyone.   I’m joined by Tamie Stuttle and Shimmi Munson for a deep dive about earning respect in the industry, double standards, inappropriate behavior, and the things people are still afraid to say out loud. Some good news for global shipping: The last 4 weeks have seen the 4 highest weeks for container ships crossing the Suez Canal since the Houthis began attacking commercial shipping in December 2023. Two thirds of container ships are now routing via the Suez instead of around Africa. If the trend holds, it should put real downward pressure on container shipping prices (higher network throughput = more supply, which leads to lower prices) and faster transit times (shaving several weeks off the journey from Asia to Europe).

International trade war starting up between France and China over international soccer superstar M’Bappe laughing at a meme that depicted him as a Chinese dictator
🚨🚨🚨BREAKING: FRENCH PRESIDENT ADDRESSES THE MBAPPÉ SAGA AND WARNS OF POSSIBLE ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES “Let me make something very clear. France has no intention of turning a football controversy into an international crisis. But we will also not sit quietly and watch a French citizen become the target of an escalating campaign over an internet meme. We have watched the apologies, the statements, the outrage, and the demands for further explanations. At some point, we must ask ourselves a very simple question: what exactly does China want from Kylian Mbappé? He is a footballer, not a diplomat. He is not responsible for managing relations between Paris and Beijing, and he certainly did not wake up one morning intending to provoke an entire nation. France respects China. We respect its people, its culture, and its institutions. But respect must work in both directions. You cannot demand respect from another country while refusing to extend the same courtesy to its citizens. And let me be clear about something else. France does not negotiate its dignity under pressure. If this situation continues to escalate, if further commercial decisions are taken against French interests, and if this controversy becomes a pretext for targeting French individuals and businesses, then our response will no longer be limited to statements from the Élysée Palace. We have diplomatic channels. We have economic partnerships. We have strategic interests. And we have the ability to reconsider the terms on which those relationships operate. I do not want an economic confrontation with China. Nobody should want that. Such a confrontation could hurt businesses, workers, investors, and consumers in both countries. But avoiding a confrontation cannot mean accepting unlimited pressure without consequences. So my message to Beijing is simple: this madness must stop before it becomes something neither country can easily control. Give diplomacy a chance. Allow this controversy to end. Let football remain football. Because if certain people believe that France will be intimidated into silence, they have seriously misunderstood the position of this country. We are prepared to cooperate with China. We are prepared to resolve disagreements through dialogue. But if dialogue is replaced with economic pressure and public humiliation, France will be prepared to protect its interests with measures proportionate to the situation. And I sincerely hope that nobody forces us to reach that point.”

the funniest part is that trying to cancel someone for a meme that says Mao was a dictator has produced the largest global conversation about Mao being a dictator in decades

So good for the industry. Going to change everything.
A battery-electric semi caught fire on I-880 in Hayward. CHP says it will burn 15–18 hours. A 2024 Tesla Semi fire on I-80 took 50,000 gallons of water.

The darker the green the keener the your machine. On average diesel fuel dips 11 cents per gallon tonight. Oregon is the big winner tomorrow at 21 cents.

At the end of the day the shippers should be careful with who they choose to do business with and that's not just the brokerages. That's the facilities as well. A couple of critical pieces like, verifying identities and vetting your partners can prevent the majority of these issues. However, complacency and decades of lax enforcement has really given the bad guys easy opportunities to steal freight.

No crash, no collision. The driver says it just caught fire going down the road. Then I-880 got shut down in both directions because of toxic battery smoke, and the southbound side stayed closed about 10 hours. Remember that 2024 Tesla Semi fire on I-80? 50,000 gallons of water, an airplane dropping retardant, and the battery hit about 1,000 degrees. I'm not against new technology. But when a truck can catch fire on its own and close an interstate for half a day, maybe they ought to work that out before they put it on the road next to me. Diesel's been doing this job a long time. 😏🚛
