Why "Networking" is difficult in Nigeria:
- Nigerians don't know how to network
- Nigerians are difficult to network with
Let me highlight how to network upwards in case some might find it useful.

It drew tears out of my eyes. Everything seemed okay, no inkling of him offing himself at all. Like you said, Sir, I'm grateful I don't see life that way 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Robin Williams, Chester Bennington, the celebrity chef Bourdain. I'd never understand how depression drives rich people off the cliff like that... it's still a mystery.

“The young man may have sung the song [give me an AK47, let me go to Enugu and kill infidels] without any malicious intention.”
Wonders shall never end.
I do not support hate speech against any religion. However, I firmly believe that if this young man belonged to another faith, the organization would not have handed him over to security agencies or publicly denied that he was a member.
As a former member of AGAJI, I know that the organization has clear rules and disciplinary procedures. The young man may have sung the song without any malicious intention., he is not the innovator of that song either, The appropriate course of action would have been to call him in, warn him, apply internal disciplinary measures, and require him to apologize so that the act would not be repeated.
Instead, the organization has denied that he was a genuine member and has even suggested that he joined with ulterior motives, which that not fair and is not islamic teaching to denied someone because he was wrong, It is worth noting that AGAJI is a voluntary organization, and this individual dedicated his time and effort to its activities, this is the treatment he has received in return.
In addition, there have been many instances of Christians issuing threats against Muslims on social media, particularly on Facebook. How many of those individuals have been arrested? Hate speech and the promotion of violence appear on social media daily, yet accountability is often selective.
I am not saying the young man should not be questioned. What I am saying is that accountability should be applied fairly and consistently to all sides.

Depression doesn’t discriminate between the rich and the poor. Money can solve financial problems, but it cannot guarantee peace of mind; and being broke doesn’t mean you’re depressed, just as having money doesn’t mean you’re happy. Remember, mental health struggles are not a sign of weakness, and no one should have to suffer in silence. Be kind to yourself and others, because sometimes the people who seem to have everything are fighting battles no amount of money can win.

32-year-old Ryan Dinnage, who was part of Nigel Farage’s security team, has been jailed for eight and a half years for raping a woman while she slept in a caravan.
He was charged in 2025, was still protecting Nigel Farage in April and May 2026, and was convicted in June.

There is this guy in my church who came to me to ask for my number about two weeks ago because he needed me to get something done for him. I punched my number onto his phone and I asked him to call or text me so I can be able to get his number too. By the time I got home, I saw a WhatsApp message from a 234 number, and he said that was his number. I just ignored him. I didn't even reply and I'd never save that number into my contact list.
Dude has been in the UK for four years now and he is still giving his Nigerian number to people in the UK with him. Or is it because I'm a Nigerian like him that he was texting me with his 234 WhatsApp number? I know he would not do that if it was a Brit that he had exchanged a contact with. Except for my very close friends and family members, I don't entertain any 234 messages on my 447 line. Let 234 messages be directed to my 234 number, biko.

I was in Primary 3 or 4 when one of my report cards came back. I did quite well in class but could have done better.
The comment that caught my dad’s eyes was “he’s good in footballing” written by the PHE teacher.
I still recall the man coming to our class and called my name to know who I was. I stood up and he said “oh you!”
That comment was in reaction to how I destroyed one class we played against and it was the man who officiated.
I never pushed for it at home. But I was freed to play football as much as I wanted.
The day I teased my dad to say what’ll be his reaction if I said I wanted to play professionally, he said “you’ll have to go to school firstly, then maybe play for Sunderland”😂😂😂😂
Emi Sunderland. Me wey for my head, I be Real Madrid material that year. I didn’t know the other side of this beautiful game.
Till tomorrow, I’m very thankful I chose education, because there are structural inequalities that’d have negated my progression if I wanted to play professionally. I saw it then. I still see it now.
Guidance is just everything.
Showed up at my boy's primary school's Open Day and, going through his books, saw his Composition on "Future Career".
Was expecting "Accountant or Businessman like my dad"

Look, I get that people are pissed about this thing—there’s a lot to be mad about. But I was raised by a civil servant, and time and again, I’ve learned that systems collapse gradually, not all at once.
Nobody shows up on their first day of work and decides to destroy archives or anything. Quite often, it’s a series of small decisions, small things we let fester here and there. Culture is whatever a system rewards or punishes.
But the thing about Nigeria is that while we’re always late to one party (the things we’ve lost are lost), I think it’s important to know we’re also always early to another.
So much has been lost, but so much can still be done. And it doesn’t have to be big things; just pick the little things.
For example, if someone in your family was a teenager when Nigeria became independent, statistically, they might be dead in a decade or way less. Sit with them and press record; they have so much to say, and so few people willing to listen. Just listen and press record. In whatever language they understand, no matter how little your understanding of it.
Keep the family album. Use your phone to photograph them. Keep the tapes.
Much of what our civilisation learned about fighting COVID-19 came from what we learned about the Spanish Flu of 1918: a mix of official records documenting death rates, etc., and personal correspondence that captured the experience of living through it.
Personal history is family history is national history.

Less than two decades ago, they moved a new Oga to NTA Lagos, and to make room for them, they emptied the tape storage and converted it into an office.
Rain beat the tapes to decay.

“We need to be talking openly about these things…”. Mr Laolu, you were in government for 8 years. You didn’t talk openly about it. You left government since 2023, you didn’t speak about it until your Principal was attacked and you were forced to come out to defend your own appointment.
