ALT Rebekah Todd 1d • Today I arrived to volunteer with Beloved Asheville. We filled my tiny Prius with water and were told that tiny cars were the only ones able to get to the delivery spot because a tree had fallen, blocking the entrance to an apartment complex. When we got there, a man told us to check on the neighboring complex as well. We arrived to hundreds of people with disabilities roaming the parking lot with no where to be and no where to go. When we walked inside to deliver the water, we were hit with darkness and a waves of strong feces odor. These people live in long concrete hallways with no lights and no running water. Close to 500 bedrooms with toilets full to the top with feces. Immobile people with bedsores who are laying in soiled sheets.

ALT I met one old woman named Lavonne who was standing on her front porch in the rain. She was too old to be standing up for that long and we asked her if she needed help. When we went into her room, the scene was grave. Her neighbor told me that Lavonne had sores on her legs that are bad and that her apartment is too stinky to stay in (because of the feces). Lavonne's bed was severely soiled. These people have no way to do laundry. Lavonne told me that she trips at night because her flashlight is low on batteries. She's asked me if I could call her caretaker which absolutely wrecked me because who knows where her caretaker is or if she can even be reached. I fear that many low income housing, mental facilities and old folks homes look this way.

ALT Please help. Please contact BeLoved Asheville. Grey water is imperative. We need a huge farm tank. Duct tape, medical, handicap toilet seats, the ones with handles, batteries for flashlights, food, water, clean sheets and blankets and pillow cases. The staff at the facility is doing their best but 500 humans with special needs and no electricity or water. I fear that infection will spread quickly in these facilities. I may not see your responses here because I have very little service. Please just show up to Beloved Asheville with supplies. Love you. 882 reactions 166 comments 5.9K shares
