75 Things You Should Know About Local SEO, One Line at a Time, Action Item After Action Item.
Front load your keyword in your meta title. Not your business name. Your keyword.
Your H1 tag and your meta title should match. Check every page right now.
One keyword per page. If two pages target the same term, Google ignores both.
Go to Google Search Console. Click Pages. Fix every page that is not indexed.
Every city you want calls from needs its own dedicated page with 500 words minimum.
Your GBP primary category matters more than almost anything. Match the top 3 in your Map Pack exactly.
Fill out every single service on your GBP with 300 characters of keyword rich copy.
Your business name on your GBP must match your LLC documentation exactly. Non negotiable.
Real commercial address. Real signage. Real suite number. Google verifies this.
Local area code phone number. Not a toll free number. Local numbers signal local relevance.
Rename every photo before uploading. roof-repair-nashville-tennessee.jpg not IMG_4523.jpg.
Upload 5 to 10 new photos to your GBP every single month. Consistently.
Respond to every single review. Include the service and city naturally in the reply.
One significant GBP change per day. Space them 48 hours apart or risk an automatic suspension.
Reviews may be 50 percent of the GBP algorithm. Treat them accordingly.
Get the majority of your reviews from people in the same metro area. Out of state reviews drop off constantly.
Detailed reviews with specific job descriptions outperform short generic ones. Coach your customers.
Never get 50 reviews in a week after months of getting two. Velocity spikes trigger spam filters.
Respond to negative reviews calmly and professionally. Silence is worse than the bad review itself.
Use BrightLocal to audit and manage your citations across the web. It is the fastest way to find where your NAP is wrong and fix it.
Your NAP must be identical everywhere. Same abbreviations. Same suite format. Same everything.
Get listed on Yelp and fill the profile out completely. ChatGPT cites Yelp constantly in local results.
Make sure Bing has your business information correct. ChatGPT pulls from Bing's index.
Get on every legal or industry specific directory relevant to your niche. Each one is a citation and a backlink.
Join your local Chamber of Commerce month one. It is a backlink from a trusted local entity.
Sponsor a local event. Local news covers it. Local news links to you. That link is worth more than ten generic ones.
Find every "best [service] in [city]" listicle on page one and two of Google. Email every one you are not on.
Backlinks are still the number one ranking factor on the website side of SEO.
80 to 90 percent of the links you build should point to your homepage. It looks the most natural.
Branded anchor text is the safest link building strategy. Use your business name.
Never build 15 backlinks in one month that all say the same exact keyword phrase. Google sees it immediately.
Only build do follow links. No follow links provide almost no ranking value.
Three to five quality backlinks per month from DR 30 plus sites beats 50 cheap directory links every time.
Before accepting any backlink check the domain rating, organic traffic, relevance, and whether it has a real underlying site.
Internal links between your city pages and service pages distribute authority across your entire site.
Your city page should link to your service page. Your service page should link back to your city page.
Build a FAQ page with 40 to 50 questions answered in your own voice with real pricing and real timelines.
That FAQ page is your single biggest weapon for showing up in ChatGPT and Perplexity results.
Generic marketing copy never gets cited by AI. Direct expert answers do.
Go to ChatGPT right now and search for your service in your city. Look at every source it cites. Get listed there.
Get mentioned on Reddit. Local subreddits are indexed and cited by AI tools constantly.
Answer questions in your city subreddit genuinely. No promotion. Just real expertise. People remember.
Do not rebuild a website that is already generating rankings and calls. Recovery from a migration takes up to a year.
If you do migrate, make sure every old URL has a 301 redirect to its new equivalent.
After any migration check every canonical tag immediately. They often default to the old hosting domain.
Your URL slugs should describe the page exactly. /nashville-roof-replacement not /page-2 or /services.
Website platform does not matter. WordPress versus Wix is a distraction. Get the fundamentals right on any platform.
Site speed matters. A page that takes five seconds to load on mobile is losing you rankings and customers.
Run a geo-grid scan on Local Falcon. See exactly where you are invisible in your own service area.
One GBP cannot dominate a 30 mile radius. Every red zone on that geo-grid map is a second location opportunity.
A second GBP requires a real address, real signage, a unique local phone number, and its own landing page.
Set up call tracking. If you do not know which channel generated each call you cannot improve anything.
Check Google Search Console at least once a month. It tells you exactly what is broken before it costs you rankings.
Answer your phone. First business to pick up wins the job. Speed to answer beats everything.
Missed call text back is the bare minimum. Set it up today.
Do not rely on a single marketing channel. If your GBP gets suspended and that is your only lead source you are in trouble.
SEO compounds. Paid ads reset to zero the day you stop paying. They are not the same investment.
A plastic surgeon needs ten clients a month. A cleaning company needs one hundred. High ticket SEO is less competitive. Always.
GBP rankings and website rankings are two completely separate algorithms. They require completely independent strategies.
If you need results fast, focus on GBP first. Your time to rank on GBP is almost entirely determined by how fast you build reviews.
Link your social media pages to your GBP. An Instagram with 300 posts proves to Google you are a real operating business.
Open Google Maps and route to your own business address every single day. It is a real engagement signal and it is free.
Every photo you post on TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook should have your city and service in the caption.
Say your city and service out loud in every TikTok video. The platform transcribes audio for search.
Get on every "best of" list in your local market. One placement earns a backlink, a citation, and AI visibility at the same time.
Get quoted in your local business journal. One media mention feeds Google rankings, AI visibility, and credibility simultaneously.
Your homepage links are the most powerful links on your entire site. If you own multiple businesses, link them to each other.
The older your domain, the better it performs. Digital real estate appreciates exactly like physical real estate.
Do not major in the minors. Schema markup and alt tags matter far less than backlinks, reviews, and your meta title.
If your agency only builds no follow links, fire them. You are paying for links that do almost nothing.
Ask your agency what their indexing strategy is. A backlink that Google never crawls is a backlink that does not exist.
Today, six months of solid SEO can get you ranked number one. Five years from now it may take eighteen months. The time to start is now.
Every single one of these is worthless if you do not execute. Print this out. Work through it line by line. The business owners who actually do the work are the ones who never have to worry about where their next customer is coming from.

What if you could generate a site with Lovable, Base44, v0, Claude, ChatGPT, etc, and import into WordPress as a real block theme?
Oh wait you can

I migrated a website with 800+ articles from @WordPress to a fully static HTML site managed with Claude Code.
A few months later, I went back to WordPress.
At first, it felt like the obvious move.
Why keep a CMS if AI can manage the entire site?
On paper, the advantages were clear:
- Extreme performance (no database, no plugins)
- Full flexibility (edit HTML/CSS/JS directly)
- Better security (almost no attack surface)
- Claude could even suggest internal links using Search Console data
I genuinely thought I had found something better.
Then I started managing the site every day.
And the reality hit.
Want to change 2 lines in an article?
WordPress: open, edit and update. Done in 20 seconds.
Static + Claude: find the file, understand the context, make the change, check that nothing broke. Several minutes.
Same problem when deleting multiple articles or updating categories, pagination, sitemap, internal links, redirects…
The usual answer is: “Just build scripts and agents.”
True.
But the moment you start building all those automations, you’re basically rebuilding your own CMS.
So the real question is no longer:
“Can AI replace WordPress?”
It’s:
“Can it handle all the small daily operations quickly and reliably?”
On a small site : yes, static + AI is excellent.
On an editorial site with hundreds of articles that you update regularly : it’s a different story.
You end up managing HTML + categories + pagination + sitemap + search + redirects + internal linking + deployment + prompts…
Your website becomes a software project.
After several months living without WordPress, my conclusion is simple:
WordPress isn’t dead.
Because the real strength of a CMS is that it automatically handles hundreds of small things you no longer have to think about.
Anyone else tried going fully static with AI on a large content site?

Claude is going to watermark its text generation to comply with EU laws.
Just wait, the rest will follow.
And as they do it, marketers who rely on AI content won’t do as well.
Already AI content doesn’t perform too well… and this will just make matters worse.
If you are ramping up your AI generated content, you may want to think again.
The watermark just makes it easier for platforms to ignore the content.

10 Actionable Steps for News Publishers Leveraging Leaked Google Algorithm Insights to Boost Rankings and Build Authority
News Publishers should pay attention to the recent #GoogleLeak. Read my extensive summary at teapawt.net/JShehata/status/179585…
10 Actionable Steps for News Publishers:
The leak of Google's internal algorithm documentation provides critical insights that can significantly impact SEO strategies for news publishers. Here’s a detailed analysis of the impact and actionable steps for news publishers:
1. Focus on original, timely content (Content Freshness and Originality): The leaked documents highlight the importance of freshness and originality. News publishers should strive to
- break stories first and provide unique angles on current events. Or Publish breaking news quickly and update existing articles with new information as it becomes available.
- Implement a strategy for regularly updating evergreen content to keep it fresh. This includes updating old articles with new information
- Monitor trends and create new content around trending topics.
- Use structured data to indicate publication and last updated dates.
- Submit XML sitemaps regularly to ensure Google indexes your latest content promptly.
2. Prioritize user engagement (User Behavior Metrics): The leak indicates that user engagement metrics like click-through rates, time on page, long clicks, and bounce rates may directly influence rankings.
News publishers should focus on
- crafting compelling headlines & meta descriptions to entice clicks,
- providing interactive content
- ensuring fast page load times,
- providing clear calls to action
- providing highly relevant content (top/related/recent articles) to generate second click and keep readers engaged
- Focusing on readability and user experience to increase dwell time and reduce bounce rate
- Optimizing internal linking to guide readers to more articles
- Promoting content on social media and other channels to drive traffic and engagement
3. Optimize for author expertise (Authority and Trustworthiness): The documents mention that author information is captured and processed, particularly for news articles. News publishers should:
- ensure articles have clear author bylines
- work to build up the reputations and expertise of their journalists
- Optimize author pages with detailed bios, credentials and links to their other work may help establish authority
- Feature content from well-known and credible authors on Homepage
4. Build Brand trust and credibility: Although E-E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) isn't explicitly mentioned as a ranking factor, the leak suggests that Google maintains whitelists for sensitive topics. News publishers must continually work to:
- bolster their credibility through accurate, and well-sourced reporting.
- Include their correction policies, managing staff, editorial standards, contact us, and about us on site with clear links in footer
5. Invest in brand building: Brand-related signals appear to play a role in rankings, according to the leak. Well-established news brands may have an inherent advantage. Publishers should work on:
- increasing brand awareness through marketing efforts, and building a loyal reader base.
- Secure mentions and links from authoritative sources
- Encourage social media sharing and engagement
6. Monitor click data: If the leak is accurate, click data may be used to assess the relevance and authority of individual pages. News publishers should closely monitor:
- click-through rates (CTR) from search results
- Bounce Rate
- Dwell time or Article Scroll Depth
7. Adapt to vertical-specific factors: The documents suggest that ranking factors may vary by vertical, with potential customizations for news-related queries. Publishers should stay attuned to any news-specific SEO best practices that emerge and adapt accordingly.
8. Avoid Demotion Pitfalls: Various demotion signals, such as anchor mismatch and SERP demotions, can negatively impact rankings.
- Ensure all links are relevant and contextually appropriate
- Avoid practices that could lead to SERP demotions, such as manipulative linking or poor navigation.
9. Monitor Link Quality and Diversity: Links remain a critical factor, with a focus on quality and diversity. News publishers should aim to earn diverse and authoritative links from reputable sources.
- Regularly audit the link profile to ensure quality and relevance
- Focus on earning backlinks from reputable sources and avoid low-quality link schemes.
10. Improve Technical SEO Factors: Factors like indexing tier and proper content structuring are highlighted.
- Ensuring technical SEO best practices, such as proper indexing, mobile optimization, and fast loading times.
- Avoid excessive keyword stuffing and maintain clean URL structures.
It is getting harder and harder for emerging and small news sites:
Increased Competition: If user engagement metrics like clicks and dwell time become even more crucial, established news brands with large audiences may have an advantage. Smaller or newer publishers might struggle to compete for visibility.
Focus on Brand Building: The emphasis on brand recognition and authority could make it harder for emerging news outlets to gain traction in search results.
YMYL Scrutiny: As news falls under the Your Money Your Life (YMYL) category, Google's increased scrutiny on these topics could lead to stricter evaluation and potential demotions if content doesn't meet their quality standards.

Social media isn't a place where you vent, air your dirty laundry, or have a meltdown.
Too many people, especially the younger generation, are venting on social media.
Whether it is about a relationship, a work issue, or whatever it may be.
You may go viral, but you will also turn off some people.
These people could either potentially hire you or do business with you.
Don't think of social media as a place for therapy... that's what a therapist or a friend is for.
Whether you like it or not, social media is your online resume.
You may not care, and that is fine too.
And if it makes you happy to post that kind of content, go for it.
Just keep in mind that there may be long-term consequences.
