A heartbreaking tragedy. Fifteen-year-old Ghanaian Jarvis Frimpong was reportedly shot dead in the Bronx by teenagers who had bullied him. His father revealed that Jarvis had only arrived in the United States a year ago. Watching his father break down in tears is absolutely devastating. A young life cut short, a family shattered, and a future stolen. This is truly heartbreaking. 💔

The treatment of Kenyans seeking visas to Nigeria is unacceptable. While we extend visa free entry to Nigerian citizens, this is not reciprocated. I have written about this before. It boils down to identity shock. In Nigeria for e.g, you are part of a massive black majority where your race is invisible. Abroad, you suddenly become a minority within a minority, stripped of your default social standing.
Sociologists call this reactionary essentialism. When migrants feel alienated in the host country, they over-index on lineage politics back home or in the host country. They attempt to solve their diaspora powerlessness by becoming vocal internet warlords in home-country politics.
It just so happens that like most humans, they fall back to the politics that is against them. Because they believe that if they associate with such politics, it can provide some shield for them. "I'm not like the others", "I am responsible & different". If they shout it loud enough, maybe the racists would leave them alone.
Unfortunately for them, the racists do not care about how subservient you are. Their problem is your race, and it is immutable. You cannot integrate enough for someone who doesn't want you there in the first place.

Just FYI as someone who works in consumer tech and sees a whole lot of conversations online daily: people are starting to snap. Between the price of everything and being surrounded by these foreigners who don't belong here who are somehow better off than our own people who are struggling and the politicians who are enriching themselves and kissing Israel's ass on TV all day people have had enough. It's a pressure cooker out there.
