Anti-COVID Mandate Protester Found Not Guilty of Assault with a Weapon at Retrial 4 Years Later
A judge in Lethbridge has found trucker James Sowery not guilty of assault with a weapon, more than four and a half years after an RCMP checkstop during the 2022 Coutts border blockade.
"It was all hearsay from multiple different officers," he told Media Bezirgan after Friday's verdict. "There was no actual evidence, no proof."
At Sowery's 2024 sentencing, the officer's victim impact statement was read in court by a Crown prosecutor: "I was in shock and reduced to tears on the side of the highway. I was unable to control my emotions in front of numerous police officers and members of the public. … I am extremely thankful that I escaped physical harm, but the mental and emotional scars from that incident remain."
RCMP accused him of using his vehicle against an officer. Sowery says he accidentally hit a pylon as he was leaving.
Today, after being found not guilty of assault with a weapon charge, Sowery said, "There was no assault that happened. I never attempted to hit an officer and never attempted to obstruct anything. I just went down to protest my rights and freedoms." The judge found him guilty of dangerous driving.
In March 2023, a Lethbridge jury convicted him on both counts, and in January 2024 he was sentenced to 10 months in jail. He appealed, won and was granted a new trial. Sowery turned down a plea deal to go to that second trial.
"I stood up in 2022 for a reason, to protect our children from the COVID-19 mandates. I'm not one that's going to back down for something I didn't do." He still disputes the dangerous driving conviction.
"I still believe that I should have been vindicated on it, but I'm going to accept the win at this point. It's been almost five years and I'm tired."
The case has cost him about $120,000, he said. His supporters, many of them seniors and blue-collar workers, helped cover it through fundraisers.
The charges also cost him his trade. Commercial carriers won't insure him, so he can no longer haul the heavy equipment and oversize loads he once moved across Canada. "So financially it has been a burden on a family," he said.
Sowery is due back in court Dec. 14 to set a sentencing date on the dangerous driving conviction.

Should police be able to demand your ID just because a neighbor sees you parked taking pictures from a public street?
North Branch, MN — May 2022: Man sits in his parked car on the public street at 6186 Oak Street.
A neighbor calls police, claiming he’s taking pictures of her while she’s in her yard.
Officer David Janssen (Badge 518, North Branch PD; later promoted to Sergeant) arrives and immediately demands the man’s driver’s license and proof of insurance.
He says the call is about photographing the neighbor in her yard and that the activity “can be considered intrusive and disorderly conduct.”
He detains the man for investigation into “suspicious activity.”
The man is on public property. He states he committed no crime, that photography from a public vantage point is protected by the First Amendment, and that he is not required to produce ID without reasonable articulable suspicion of a specific crime.
He repeatedly asks if he is being detained and for what crime, films the entire encounter, and eventually gets the officer’s name and badge on camera.
The stop lasts roughly 13 minutes.
No crime is identified.
Janssen ends the detention and leaves.
No citation, no arrest, no forced ID.
❓Does knowing your rights actually change the outcome in these encounters?
❓If the man had handed over his ID immediately, would the stop have ended faster or gone further?

HOLY CR*P 🚨
- Democrats did give MILLIONS of illegals Social Security Numbers
- They were REGISTERING TO VOTE
- Elon Musk has confirmation THEY DID VOTE
- Democrats qualified illegals for MAX SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS
- They enrolled in Medicaid with their new Social Security Numbers
See graph in video:
“Then you'll notice there's a strange, what jumped out at us when we saw these numbers. We're like, what is this? In 2021, you see 270,000 people, it goes all the way to 2.1 million and 2024. These are non-citizens that are getting social security numbers.
This is a mind-blowing charge. This literally blew us away.”
“If I hadn't seen this myself, I'm not sure I believed it. I went through it myself and mapped it. And Elon is right. This is true. The defaults in the system from social security to all of the benefit programs have been set to max inclusion, MAX PAY for these people and minimum collection.
We found 1.3 million of them already on Medicaid as an example. We've gone through on every benefit program we went through, we found groups from this particular group of people, this 5.5 million people in those benefit programs.
And then what was really, really disturbing us was why we're asking ourselves why.
So we actually just took a sample and looked at voter registration records and we found people here registered to vote in this population. Yes.
Who did vote? We found some by sampling that ACTUALLY DID VOTE.
We have referred them to prosecution at the Homeland Security Investigation Service. Yeah. Already, already. That is already happening right now. The truly disturbing thing though, I just want you to know this, a truly disturbing thing to me, and the darkest thing about this, to me, the voter fraud is terrible.”

BREAKING: 🇵🇾 What just happened in PARAGUAY is a WARNING for everyone on earth.
More than 3 million people (60% of Paraguay's adult population) have lost access to EVERYTHING. Their bank accounts. Their pensions. Frozen. Inaccessible.
Paraguay’s largest digital bank, Ueno Bank, has collapsed.
The president of the Central Bank (who is deeply connected to Ueno) has just RESIGNED. Eight high-level executives including the founder and the Bank President are being detained.
The people have taken to the streets to demand their money back. And rightly so.
This is the model Milei and the rest of the Epstein class are pushing. This could happen ANYWHERE. Best to save in physical gold and physical silver, imo.

Canada’s income per person started falling behind the US in 2015.
The drastic decline began before:
• COVID (2020)
• Ukraine War (2022)
• Trump Tarrifs (2025)
What excuse do Liberals have for the decline before any of these?
I'd like to hear it.🤔

Carney says the EU deal protects our sovereignty.
Here's what von der Leyen said in Montreal last week:
"Closer alignment on governance."
"Parliament to Parliament."
"Court to Court."
She wants a partnership "closer to membership than anything we have done before."
Nobody voted for that.
And Carney says the name "doesn't matter."
When the EU president is clearer than our own PM, Canadians should be asking questions, eh? 🇨🇦

Yesterday was the Midterm elections in the #USA and #DonaldTrump and the #Republican party absolutely had their arses handed to them by the #Democrats.
But this video is a warning to the USA and the celebrating Democrats. A warning of your impending doom if you allow this to continue. If the Democrats allow political Islam to grow and flourish as it started to last night then very very quickly you will start to resemble the U.K. and Europe that you’ve spent recent years mocking. It’s already happening, look at Michigan and it will spread quickly. Be warned, stop it soon or lose your country.

Also CBC: crickets on Prime Minister Carney’s longtime friend Dan Goldberg (Telesat CEO) landing a $2.3-billion Arctic military satellite contract while Telesat somehow isn’t on Carney’s ethics screen covering 103 other companies
Nothing to see here, folks. Just the CBC doing what it does best — obsessing over American billionaires so it doesn’t have to ask too many questions about the ones with the keys to Canadian taxpayer money
Curious incuriosity @elonmusk @brodiefenlon
Mark Carney, March 2025: “What possible conflict would you have, Stephanie?”
Mark Carney, November 2026: No ethics screen for his 20-year running buddy Dan Goldberg, whose company just landed a $2.3B Arctic military satellite contract (plus prior billions in loans)
Evan Solomon (also friends with Goldberg) has a screen. The PM doesn’t
You could drive a bus full of multibillion-dollars of taxpayer cash through that “screen”
Just trust the process. Look inside yourself, Canada! @MarkJCarney
