The world needs secure comms as a bulwark against authoritarianism and oppression. Matrix seeks to meet that need, as a decentralised, encrypted protocol.
But Trust & Safety is difficult in a decentralised environment. How are we building a safer Matrix? matrix.org/blog/2025/02/buil…
Been thinking a lot about @hankgreen and @soFISHtication's "Wetris", and I think it's "just" a matter of noodle tetris? Could be a fun coding challenge.

We’re part of an open letter asking the UK government to rethink the Online Safety Bill to protect end-to-end encryption and respect privacy.

This is so incredibly cool.
Having far too much fun at @enterprisecon demoing AR in @thirdroomio to visualise flight traffic over @flySFO in realtime via Matrix!

Replying to @OpenRightsGroup @element_hq
"The bill takes a wrecking ball to the very fabric of encryption, by requiring encrypted messaging apps to scan for abusive content within the app... providing a mechanism that can be hijacked and abused to access arbitrary user data." @ara4n @element_hq #OnlineSafetyBill #e2ee

The UK’s Online Safety Bill has good intentions, but the proposed legislation is remarkably poor. It’s proposing state surveillance and censorship. It needs to be ripped up and started again. element.io/blog/the-online-s…

Big news: Gitter is officially ascending entirely into Matrix: we’re migrating the historical Gitter service into being a Gitter-branded Element in Feb 2023. We’ve migrated all the historical accounts & data, so it should be transparent: read all at blog.gitter.im/2023/01/16/gi…

I published my research on Matrix's read receipts & how they impact notifications while putting together the MSCs for threads. Not sure if it is useful to others, but was encouraged to put it somewhere!

When writing this back in 2020, I spent far too much time looking into characteristics of how snowflakes fall if translated to a 2D space.
Turns out a sine wave with differing frequencies/amplitudes works just as well.
also, 1 day off from its anniversary :)
