posting fanfics isnt abt site engagement, especially in ao3, its about enjoying the fandom and giving a piece of yourself to other people that enjoy the same things. people will mostly download works to preserve them bc they treasure them.

am I too woke of a fic writer to be a little conflicted about fics being downloaded to personal drives without the author’s knowledge and shared/read without the author gaining any site engagment or is this something I should brush off and get over /gen

again, no one's going to see this T__T but here's a guide to archiving fics on the wayback machine go to web.archive.org , and put the url in the 'save' box. but what happens when a fic is a) archive-locked b) rated e/m/not rated or b) chaptered?

in case anyone needs a refresher: you can paste a fics URL into the wayback machine and read it as if you are on AO3. only catch is that newer fics are less likely to be archived.

this causes some problems. if you add the link and it's 'adult content', you won't see the actual fic on the wayback machine. if the work is multi-chaptered, it'll only include the chapter you're on. to solve both: add ?view_adult=true&view_full_work=true to the end of the url
