im sorry for being so annoying about ao3 criticism but man it is one of the last remaining websites with ZERO !!! ads online 😭 you dont need an app, you dont need a subscription its entirely free and its !!! ad-less !!!

posting fanfics isnt abt site engagement, especially in ao3, its about enjoying the fandom and giving a piece of yourself to other people that enjoy the same things. people will mostly download works to preserve them bc they treasure them.

if ao3 means so much to you and is such a big part of your daily life that you feel the weight of its absence now, let it also be a reminder about the importance of leaving kudos and comments even if its just a simple "i loved this!" to show writers you care about their hard work

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!! READ CAREFULLY GUYS AND BE CAUTIOUS!
Earlier today, we detected evidence of a security incident on #AO3. We are still in the early stages of investigating. No AO3 data has been deleted. All your works, bookmarks, kudos, etc., are safe. Learn more at otwstatus.org/incidents/g12j…

as much as it sucks ao3 is going to be down for weeks i do hope it kinda serves as a wake-up call for people regarding how important fic writers are in a fandom

AO3 IS RUN BY VOLUNTEERS
they do not get paid for any of this. be kind, patient, and respectful to the volunteers who work hard to keep ao3 running, fight against censorship, and protect writers, fanfics, and people’s rights/freedom to write whatever they want, however they want

We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/
#AO3 maintenance is in progress. We expect it to take at least 12 hours, but it may take longer. We will provide updates as necessary. Refer to our status page for updates: otwstatus.org/incidents/g12j…

people being stingy with kudos on ao3 is crazy to me
if i read to the end of the first chapter, i kudos
if i really liked it, i open a private tab and kudos as a guest
if i really REALLY liked it i kudos from every device in my house

I can't speak for anyone else, but whenever I read a book, I always feel like my writing improves immensely for a while. Like a little boost. The flow is good too. And when I stop reading, my writing does a very sharp decline, and the flow goes choppy. It's a fight.

Broke: Not giving kudos until the fic is finished
Woke: Using incognito mode to give extra kudos

someone in a fandom i used to be in got "cancelled" bc someone "spotted" their kudos on a "problematic" work and its like... first of all arent you also at the devil's sacrament 😭

i think you guys need to grow the hell up and stop using ao3 as twitter who the hell monitors kudos 😭 you guys make fandoms miserable and then wonder why fandom is miserable
