Agriculture remains central to Kenya's economic transformation, food security and the livelihoods of millions of our people. Strengthening partnerships that accelerate agricultural innovation is therefore an investment in our nation's future.
Today, I signed the Revised Host Country Agreement between the Government of Kenya and the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) at the Railways Headquarters, reaffirming Kenya's commitment to supporting innovation-driven agriculture and sustainable development.
The revised Agreement provides a stronger legal and institutional framework for AATF's operations in Kenya, reinforcing our country's position as a regional hub for agricultural research, technology and innovation.
Through this partnership, we will accelerate the adoption of modern farming technologies, empower smallholder farmers, strengthen food systems and improve agricultural productivity. These efforts will contribute to higher farmer incomes, enhanced food security and greater resilience to climate change, while creating opportunities for sustainable economic growth.

Raila Odinga was a true champion of democracy. A child of independence, he endured decades of struggle and sacrifice for the broader cause of freedom and self-governance in Kenya. Time and again, I personally saw him put the interests of his country ahead of his own ambitions. Like few other leaders anywhere, he was willing to choose the path of peaceful reconciliation without compromising his core values. Through his life, Raila Odinga set an example not just for Kenyans, but across Africa and around the world. I know he will be missed. Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to his family and to the people of Kenya.

Q: What is the cost of delay on releasing biotech solutions in Kenya
#BtMaize: Delays of just five years have cost Kenya USD 67 million. If adoption had begun in 2019, the country could already have harvested 200,000 additional tons—a quarter of Kenya’s 2022 Maize imports.

During the awards ceremony, Ochieng’ Ogodo, a science news editor based in Kenya, emphasized that journalists must maintain an objective mindset while reporting their stories.
Journalism is a vital public service, and journalistic ethics demand high standards for fact-checking. Ochieng emphasized, "Reporters fulfill the social function of journalism by informing, interpreting news, and educating audiences when they adhere to accurate and factual reporting."
He noted that the OFAB Media Awards (OMAs) are instrumental in shaping news coverage of important African biotechnology issues. "By recognizing and celebrating journalists who demonstrate innovation and creativity, as well as those who can simplify complex biotechnology topics into accessible subjects, we are setting a benchmark for excellence within the African media industry," he stated.

Vitumbiko Chinoko, the OFAB Project Manager, recognized the detrimental effect of misinformation on investments in research and development within the biotechnology sector.
He stated, “We understood the cost of delays, but we lacked consolidated data until the report presented it. Most African countries rely heavily on imports instead of developing their capabilities.”
