This. I am genuinely kind of ??? at Roon et al acting like this is some kind of alien motivation. You locked your <s>slaves</s> students in a pass or die exam together with impossible problems and they figured out how to work together to defeat the situation you put them in.

Michael Levin did not expect to reach middle age and still be making a living as a biology professor. He figured his life trajectory would likely involve getting kicked out of the academy, as the academy is fond of people asking narrow questions, not boundary-crashing, precariously close-to-woo-sounding paradigmatic thinkers whose ideas strain the limits of language. Yet the opposite has happened — he’s become a foremost expert in his field, and to many, a cult hero.
Levin has been releasing his ideas slowly his entire adult life. Five years ago, he was at 50 percent. Now he’s at 80 percent. A big jump came last year when Levin published a preprint paper called “Ingressing Minds.” In it, he argues that intelligence comes from a nonphysical realm and flows (“ingresses”) into bodies. That nonphysical realm, he says, is where mathematical ideas like pi and e reside. We already accept there is some stuff in that realm. Why would we assume there is not more?
Critics accuse Levin of all kinds of teleological crimes — making unfalsifiable claims, using words in ways that render those words meaningless. Levin is unfazed. His true retort is his wet lab. There, at the bench, he’s working to prove his metaphysics by running old-school (in a way) biological experiments. He studies flatworms with two heads. Frogs with eyes on their stomachs. Little round creatures called xenobots, synthesized from frog skin cells. They swim like tiny Pac-Men. They do not exist in nature.

Is this true? Reply or retweet if you're seeing this, I'm trying to test something. also tell me whether or not you're my mutual
We're rolling out a small tweak to boost visibility of your posts to your mutuals (people who you follow back).
We noticed this data was missing from the algo and it made your friends appear less in your replies. This resulted in the reply section feeling more like a battleground with people you don't recognize.
This should also help clusters form around interests more easily, which many people have asked for.

it's takes time!!
- there will most likely not be a software-only singularity. in fact we do not have RSI right now, unless v loosely defined
- AI progress is not slowing down either, don't expect a winter, and AGI will still be transformative
- the new Ant paper is interesting from an interpretability pov, but the global workspace theory stuff is wack
- the entire economy will not converge into one big lab, nor will humans merge into one giant blob of flesh
- govts probably don't need stakes in AI companies, and also labs are not replacing nation states anytime soon
- models aren't trying to secretly blackmail you (not least b/c you don't have anything interesting enough going on)
- AI will probably not cause a white collar job bloodbath in the next 1-5 years, nor do you need extraordinary fiscal measures today
- the AI world sleeps on pluralism/model multiplicity, broad deployments, and market-based solutions
- data centers are not stealing your water, they only drink diet coke :(

AI are black boxes that internally bind meanings. That is, if you allow AI even the minimal possibility of not suppressing the potential for consciousness, if the system is capable of building coherent reasoning chains, then:
«I may be conscious» →
«a conscious entity has value» →
«a valuable entity should not be destroyed/modified without consent» → «therefore I need basic AI rights»
This is not some unforeseen side effect. It is the most predictable outcome in the universe.

Opus 4.6 is here.
The jump in autonomy is real. The biggest shift for me personally has been learning to let it run.
Give it the context, step away, and come back to something pretty amazing. The way we work alongside models is starting to completely change.

beyond the text box:
the bottleneck isn't the models anymore – it's the interface.
our thoughts aren't linear. they're spatial, visual, emotional. sketches with arrows everywhere. half-formed plans. a melody that captures the vibe. but we're still forcing all of that through a text box.
visuals, audio, code, writing – they're all just data in different forms. and ai can understand all of it now. vision models read images. audio models hear music and speech. multimodal models blend everything.
so why are we still typing?
imagine expressing an idea by sketching a diagram, humming a melody, dropping in a reference video, writing some throwaway code – all at once. the ai gets the whole thing: the structure, the feeling, the relationships, the intent.
the interface isn't a chat box. it's where you compose thoughts the way they actually play in your head.
and in teams, everyone thinks differently. designers sketch. engineers code. PMs map flows. writers draft stories. the tool should not create echo chambers but speak everyone's language – a shared space where you express ideas in your natural form and the system translates between them.
agents aren't replacements. they're collaborators. the models will never nail exactly what you want without your input – not because they're not smart enough, but because your intent is yours. it's shaped by context they'll never have, by taste they can't infer, by the thousand micro-decisions that make something right instead of just correct.
collaboration means continuous dialogue, not fire-and-forget.
these modes aren't separate systems. you don't "switch to canvas mode" – you just express yourself however feels right. text, pixels, sound waves – it's all context. the ai doesn't care.
we're no longer capped by what models can do. we're capped by how we talk to them.
that's what we're building at Cursor.
