Yesterday (Oct. 26) marked the 150th consecutive day that the Niño 3.4 sea surface temperature set a new record daily high, at 30.22°C (preliminary). This was more than 1.13°C above the previous record daily high set in 2015, as well as a record 3.49°C above the 1991-2020 baseline.

If you cannot trace your emissions number, you cannot defend it. TIME covered the carbon accounting debate. I judge outside help by one test. Can you explain the assumptions after they leave. time.com/article/2026/10/09/…

Your fund manager often casts climate votes on your behalf. I think individual shareholders deserve direct votes on climate change.

Fund managers would need to let savers direct how their portion of a fund's shares gets voted. Savers shouldn't have to work through layers of paperwork to take part.

Shareholders won't all choose the same pace. But their votes should be binding. Directors should have to carry out the approved climate plan and explain missed targets.

Another compliance dashboard will not fix your fuel data. I think the real advantage sits one layer down, in records that still hold up when a verifier, a regulator or your own commercial team starts asking hard questions. #FuelData #Compliance

Shipowners report the same voyage and fuel data under IMO DCS, CII, EU MRV, EU ETS, FuelEU and UK rules. With fragmented records, someone rebuilds that data for each one. Lots of spreadsheets. And every rebuild is another chance for two versions of one number to disagree.

Take one CO2 figure for one voyage. Operations checks it against fuel use. A verifier traces it to bunker records. A regulator challenges it, and the commercial team defends it to a customer. On a defensible spine, the team does not rebuild it in between.

New ECSA study on shipping and the EU ETS. The headline: shipping is about 10% of ETS emissions but pays almost 20% of the bill, and unlike other sectors it has never received free allowances. The Commission's SMAP mechanism would earmark 110 million allowances for maritime decarbonisation. ECSA's in-house study puts the need at 330 million (around EUR 30bn) to build a market for sustainable fuels and technologies. Two things to keep apart. The revenue imbalance is a matter of record. The 330 million figure is an industry estimate tied to a negotiating position, and the study's assumptions deserve a close read. ECSA also asks that SMAP cover energy efficiency projects, not only fuels. That matters for the existing fleet, where retrofits are often the nearest term lever. The ask now goes to Parliament and Council as ETS negotiations get under way this autumn. #maritime #euets #vessel #IMO ecsa.eu/new-study-finds-ship…

The 2026 EU ETS review is the first since shipping entered the system. For maritime: smaller vessels (400 to 5,000 GT) phased in, up to 110m EUAs for clean fuels and propulsion, one combined ETS/MRV/FuelEU report, and an IMO review clause. Negotiations start this autumn. #ets #Europe #IMO transportenvironment.org/art…

Most SMEs already have 80% of the data they need for a first GHG inventory. Purchase ledger → Scope 3 Category 1 Energy bills → Scope 1 + 2 Travel expense reports → Scope 3 Category 6 The first version doesn’t need perfect data. It needs a clear boundary, documented assumptions, and a method you can explain to a customer or auditor. Numbers you can defend beat numbers you can’t.

Your first GHG accounting sheet can be built from records you already keep. Purchase ledger, energy bills, travel. No sustainability department. No consultancy fee for the first step. Numbers You Can Defend. Written so an SME can do it in-house.

Shipping will play a minor part in the offtake of green fuels by 2050 but will play a large part of the transportation of these fuels 🙏 @shippingics @ABSeagle #shipping #netzero #lsw23 #blaadk – at London, England

It was not a surprise, but now we have scientific evidence, that the widespread heatwaves this summer are much more common due to manmade climate change. It will make a pressure on #cop28 in November. #dkpol #ClimateEmergency worldweatherattribution.org/…
