Excited how this PhD is shaping out.
Kicking things off with the first of three mesocosm campaigns investigating the impact of ocean alkalinity enhancement on nitrification.

One moment there's nothing, the next... a heartbeat.
As a vertebrate embryo grows, its heart tissue starts to pulse well before it's actually needed. But how does the developing heart actually co-ordinate that very first beat?
The very first beat: how a heart starts to pulse
Hours of footage of zebrafish embryos lets researchers capture and study this key moment in development
Hey beautiful people :) I’m moving to Edinburgh next month and I’m currently looking for an affordable shared flat maybe with water loving room mates. If someone knows someone who knows ... you know the game.. It would make me super happy if you could share this post 💛

Being sceptical about CDR is necessary and justified. Being sceptical about the need for CDR and its research neglects realities of emission trajectories. There will be no "below 2°C", without massive CDR, whether you like it or not.
My main takeaway from the mCDR session at the @US_OCB Summer Workshop is that the marine science community is very skeptical about CDR. We’ve got some work to do to convince our colleagues that researching CDR is important.

School strike week 251. Today, I graduate from school, which means I’ll no longer be able to school strike for the climate. This is then the last school strike for me, so I guess I have to write something on this day.

With a great team @allanah_pl, @Mar_Walimai, @Markinthelab and @UlfRiebesell, I am happy to present my 1st author paper on #N2fixation in the #ETSP of #Peru . We report a latitudinal pattern of N2 fixation mirroring N loss. (1/5)

Are you interested in Climate Change, and Environmental Engineering?
Are you interested to collaborate in an ocean alkalinity enhancement experiment?
If yes, we have funding for you (if you are a scientist, company, or student) and your team!

Here is the distribution of mammals on Earth today, by biomass.
🐘 Wild mammals = 4%*
🐄 Livestock = 62%
🧍♀️ Humans = 34%
*This includes marine mammals. Mostly whales. If only counting mammals on land, it's 2%.

I talk to a lot of people interested in climate solutions who are not ocean chemists. This is the easiest way to see how adding alkalinity to the ocean lowers pCO₂ without changing dissolved inorganic carbon and potentially allows the ocean to take up more atmospheric CO₂.
