1: We at @USArmy's Foreign Military Studies Office (FMSO), part of @TRADOC, are out with the newest edition of “OE Watch,” our monthly run-down of foreign perspectives of the international operational environment. As its EiC I’m 100% biased, but I think it's fascinating + useful:

Such an important project - today's GTI report launch by @GlobPeaceIndex notes IS remains the most deadly group with 1833 deaths across 21 countries. Western countries aren't too good at keeping things at the top of the news when they aren't *directly* affected.
First promo clip for my Islamic State mapping project! IS may no longer be at the top of the news, but the group is still very much active and in many places they hadn't been when IS was at its peak in Iraq and Syria.

@MatthewKirwin1, @Lassaneo, & @warnjason argue in Fake News in the Sahel that stories on counterterrorism from public opinion surveys, among other sources, in Burkina Faso, Mali, & Niger offer rich sites for recalibrating fake news outside a western frame doi.org/10.1017/asr.2022.63

In January, UN member states will discuss Regional Representation and Security Council reform. The IGN process is tepid but on Africa, interesting to see how 1) overlapping regional organizations in Northern Africa and 2) Africa's long-standing Ezulwini Consensus will fare.

Back in '95, I took Intro to IR as a freshman. The syllabus had no people of color nor anyone on the left. I complained to my professor who told me there were none to include. He was wrong. 27 years later, I attempted to correct this by writing about DuBois in @ForeignAffairs.
