Things to remember with the world series being at the elimination games. The day after the world series winner is crowned, free agency begins. - there is a 5 day quiet period. An exclusive negotiating period for a teams free agents. - free agency opens on the 5th day after the world series at 5 pm est to any team for any free agent player. - qualifying offers on free agents are due by the 5th day. Players then have 10 days to either accept or reject the qualifying offer. The qualifying offer is a 1 year 23.15 million dollar contract. -signing a qualifying offer player costs the 2nd or 3rd highest draft pick and a reduction of 500,000 or more in international funds. - even if the world series ends in game 7 (October 31st) that will give teams and players a month to make a deal before the current CBA expires (December 1st at 11 59 pm) and a lockout potentially begins on December 2nd - this will be a very different offseason than we are used to. Signings and trades could happen very fast or not at all. It could put a hold on the draft lottery. It could put a hold on international free agency singings on January 15th, and it could potentially end the international free agency once and for all (implementing a draft instead which seems to be the consensus but when and how has yet to be determined, here's hoping to a few years out for the Braves and Alfredo Sena's sake)
