Since the beginning of Trump’s second term, American democracy has been unwound at frightening speed.
Analysis by the V-Dem Institute shows the rate of democratic backsliding in the US is faster than we saw in Hungary, India, Russia, or Serbia.
And if we don’t take urgent action it could happen here too

Re #CovidInquiryUK a complete whitewash, despite us submitting 48 real time reports which included evidence from hundreds of #Whistleblowers on issues such as,
Residents needlessly sedated or locked in their rooms to stop people with dementia wandering.
Discharges into so called "designated" homes and much more.
We are absolutely appalled by the conclusions especially in relation to Isolation in care homes given our evidence. The @covidinquiryuk fails to even mention the word #whistleblower
Hundreds of staff risked every thing to report concerns and yet they are completely ignored by @covidinquiryuk who have even ignored the fact that we successfully challenged the @CareQualityComm decision to withhold vital information on how many people died in residential care settings (as opposed to nursing homes) with no medical care whatsoever. Deaths in care homes are all lumped together. @covidinquiryuk is a complete whitewash.

🟢 Alex Armstrong, GB News apology to Mothin Ali, Deputy Leader of the Green Party.
Mr Armstrong posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Mr Ali paricipated in the Harehills riots when he was actually asked by police to calm protesters. The posts are false and defamatory.
@MothinAli
On 19 July 2024, I published two posts on my X account in which I made allegations about Mr Mothin Ali being involved in the Harehills riots. I have accepted these were incorrect and I have jointly made a statement in open Court in order to apologise to Mr Ali and correct the record which is below.

VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE!
For some people with blood cancer, a second stem cell transplant isn't just a treatment option - it’s their only chance at survival.
That’s why I’m joining @AnthonyNolan, @DKMS_uk & @LeukUK in calling on @NHSEngland to update their policy on second transplants, so no one is denied potentially lifesaving treatment
We need 100,000 signatures which would mean the petition is considered for debate in Parliament. Please sign the petition - it only takes a moment and let’s give all patients the fair chance they deserve🙏

Thank you. In my case, I repeatedly raised concerns about my disabled daughter’s care, treatment and restrictions on her liberty. I contacted police, safeguarding bodies, regulators and spent years in the Court of Protection.
What is particularly painful is that the restrictions on our family have become extraordinarily severe. We have been told not to speak our native language during contact. Conversations have been supervised, with staff listening to every word. These restrictions have continued for years.
After around eight years of litigation, I have still not seen evidence that justifies treating an ordinary mother-daughter relationship in this way.
That is what people outside the system often do not understand. Deprivation of liberty is not only about whether somebody is physically allowed to walk out of a building. It can reach into communication, relationships, privacy, language and family life.
And when you challenge it, you discover that one body refers you to another: police, safeguarding, regulators, Ombudsmen, courts, while the vulnerable person continues living under the restrictions.
Because there are current proceedings and reporting restrictions, I have to be careful about what I disclose. But after eight years, I believe the public needs to understand the human reality behind the words “care”, “safeguarding” and “best interests”.

We have blocked a small number of people on this site. Our account is run by Eileen and a team of volunteers, all of whom manage the posts in between the core helpline work. Its extremely upsetting for people doing stressful work answering helpline telephone calls to have pages of nasty messages directed at them. We believe some of these messages relate to the funding of @WBINC_Doc which has nothing to do with us. Our helpline has supported over 17k whistleblowers and 10k families of abuse victims and those people answering those calls and supporting people in crisis do not need to be reading nasty posts.

Charlotte's Brain Tumour Journey

There was little change on the MRI.
A small piece of good news, but by this point every scan, every appointment and every conversation seemed to bring another reminder of how serious everything had become.
One of the play specialists came into the room today to explain about the radiotherapy mask.
This was all becoming too much.
It wasn't happening.
Or at least, my mind couldn't take it in.
I couldn't get my head around the fact that my daughter was now preparing to have radiotherapy to her brain and spine.
They showed us pictures from a file explaining what would happen.
I remember looking at them and thinking that this couldn't possibly be our life.
Charlotte told me that the pain and discomfort in her neck and shoulders had eased.
That was something.
She had also decided to wear an eye patch.
They had blocked out the left-hand side of her glasses to help with her double vision.
But even then, Charlotte was worried about how she looked.
She was concerned that she appeared to look weird and didn't want to draw attention to herself.
That really upset me.
She was still a young girl who cared about how she looked and what other people thought of her.
Even with everything she was facing, she was still worrying about being noticed.
She shouldn't have been thinking about radiotherapy masks, eye patches, tumours and hospital treatment.
She should have been worrying about completely ordinary teenage things.
Instead, cancer had taken over her life.
I was beginning to realise just how much of her young life this illness was taking away.
If you would like to support a self-funding brain tumour charity why not pop a pound in Charlotte's Bag. 100% of every donation goes directly to brain tumour research in Charlotte’s Lab, King’s College Hospital, London. No salaries. No overheads. No advertising. No merchandise.

Young people in care are being moved around constantly, often because local authorities are trying to save money. But what they’re forgetting is that the trauma this causes will inevitably put even more pressure on their services further down the line.
The consequences can be devastating, with many struggling with their mental health and, as we’ve seen recently, far too many falling into incredibly difficult circumstances and tragically taking their own lives.
We have to stop looking at the short-term cost and start looking at the long-term human cost. You cannot save money by creating more trauma. #facts

This is the moment the messages were read out to me…. I thought my heart was going to explode
I was not a political obstacle to be “isolated”. I was a bereaved mother fighting to discover how my only child died in state care.
These messages demand answers.
Who knew about this strategy?
Who approved it?
And will @NadineDorries Dorries be required to explain her actions publicly before the #LampardInquiry?
Bereaved families deserve truth—not manipulation.
