Dat Izzy koffie verhaal is toch wel bizar. PMV en crowlenders dik afgezet, en dan een doorstart maken via een “stil faillissement “? Wie vertrouwt die gast nog?

Portrait mode launched 10 years ago today. I think it resonated with people because it didn’t feel digital. It felt analog. And this was likely because the inspiration behind its technique went all the way back to oil painting. Sometimes pure math isn’t enough; you need to combine it with insights from the liberal arts. If you recall Portrait mode shipped a month after the iPhone did. This was because this insight about oil painting took a while to figure out. Initially, Portrait mode was seen as a giant math problem. You’d do disparity calculations on the two sensors and output a depth map. The problem was this approach feels and looks digital; it feels fake. In areas without texture, it’s impossible to do this calculation. In areas with ultra fine detail, a lower resolution depth map leads to terrible transitions and a full resolution depth map takes forever to compute. One solution would be to reduce the amount of bokeh so the issues are not as obvious. But then you lose the whole point of the feature, which was to make it look like you had a large, wide-open lens. The solution to this conundrum—the tradeoff between artifacts and the amount of blur— was quite elegant, but it took a while to stumble across. There’s a saying in painting that if you get the eyes right, nothing else matters. Inspired by this principle from oil painting, the idea was to make sure we never got the eyes wrong. We brought in a machine learning block to find the eyes, and draw a mask layer that protected them, then paired that with the disparity depth map. Counterintuitively, the solution was not to decrease the amount of blur, it was to increase it. The additional blur that we could add once the eyes were protected allowed us to hide the artifacts that were create by bad depth calculation. We let the ears go soft, let the nose go a bit soft. This is that wide open look that people loved, even if people didn’t realize that the ears going soft was why. I was thinking about this recently with regard to AI. We’ll be able to do more amazing things… we just need to study the masters who came before us.

Any decent responsive web design implementation already supports Duo out of the box
I forgot to mention: We've updated @macstoriesnet for the iPhone Duo! This was a bit of work, but super happy to have day one support for our readers.

I’m so tempted to buy an iPhone Duo despite The Verge’s 7.0 “warning: early adopter material” review

Leaked ME5 trailer
A purported BioWare developer has leaked a trailer for the cancelled ME 5 on Reddit. The footage, reportedly titled "MASS EFFECT UNIVERSE," appears to suggest the project was further along in development. Its authenticity remains unverified. #MassEffect

Claude Design needs id links on every note; this is essential. You do ⌘+L on anything selected (like in @figma or @paper and then you prompt with what you need) @joellewenstein

This is what keep telling people. Sure it requires some investment. Sure you will not replace intricate apps like Figma or Notion immediately. But once you have a stack that can email, deploy, create/manage db… you can create so much. And you’re not locked in. Team work is a bit more difficult though.
Something that’s often overlooked on the ROI of spending more via LLM tokens to generate bespoke replacements of Saas (for internal use) is that Saas by definition is the lowest common denominator. Very few offer the ability to customize. Claude generated solutions by definition are malleable and only include the features I personally need. Maybe it’s not perfect or production-grade, but it does the job better and I can iterate with new features as needed. This produces a far higher ROI than working around the limitations of a $25/mo software solution. For example, I needed to draw and prompt edits on the canvas and Claude added that within 2 minutes. No feature request, no support chat. Just one prompt and it’s live.

I think some people discounted that a product team that has been rocking it for 10+ years might be capable of finding a good solution to survive and then thrive in an AI world? $FIG

My LinkedIn feed is full of people sharing some super generic work, assuring themselves that they themselves involved the “human” in AI when they built their next slop project. Sure 🙄

This one team prompted Opus 5.5 for a launch video and had to assure themselves they were still “crafting” because of their prompts. AOK. Oh, you prompted new icons in your project and finished an icon project in 2 days to replace your company icons by something that looks exactly like Lucide. Good I guess? What makes your work you?
