We hit 100° today which breaks the daily record high of 97° set in 1954. This is a separate update from yesterday, and not a duplicate. This is the 6th time we’ve hit triple digits this month.

🌡️ RECORD-BREAKING HEAT ACROSS SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE TODAY 🌡️
We didn’t just get warm… we skipped spring and went right into SUMMER! Several locations either tied or broke record highs for this date...
Here’s a breakdown:
Coalmont: 84° (Old record: 76° in 2017)
Lynchburg: 84° (Old record: 83° in 2017)
Sewanee: 84° (Old record: 83° in 1907)
Shelbyville: 84° (Old record: 80° in 1991)
Spring Hill: 88° (Old record: 85° in 2017)
Winchester: 84° (Old record: 79° in 1991)
This kind of warmth is being driven by a strong ridge of high pressure parked over the southern U.S., allowing temperatures to soar well above normal for this time of year.
Reminder: Data is NOT considered official until confirmed by the National Weather Service. All values listed are based on NWS climate data and STN Weather in-house modeling.

Critical reminders about generators from MTE, but apply to NES customers also. Generator backfeed is a life threatening problem to power crews. Backfed power isn’t just 120v, it goes through your transformer, which steps it up to many thousands of volts on the distribution lines.

The M 4.1 Earthquake was felt over a large area. Which is common in the Eastern US where we don’t have as many faults, the seismic waves can travel much farther and be felt over larger distance is because of our bedrock. Unlike west coast quakes which are felt only closer to the epicenter.
