The fact that he presented us with this in his private album back in 1986, and so delicately in the national award-winning Veedu in 1988 already 🤌🤌🤌
it’s unbearably heartwarming to me that this magnificent track that literally feels like falling in love plays over karthi and dorothy finding each other again and again… and it’s fucking called “how else to name it?” 🥹🥹🥹🥹

When “Storm” — a seven-and-a-half-minute music video starring Swedish rapper Yung Lean and directed by Romain Gavras —  debuted in April, it seemed like a celebration of all the things AI supposedly couldn’t fake: sweat, luck, and the swagger of a guy who knows how cool he looks standing still. But once people started calling “Storm” something AI couldn’t do, AI companies seemed to take it personally. “The tech people were like, ‘Oh yeah? AI could never?’ Then they started replicating it,” Gavras said. “So we were forced into this conversation. It’s a nightmare.” In September, social media was flooded with clips that re-created a half-minute from “Storm” — Lean’s cigarette, his walk up the steps, the dance explosion behind him — with the same choreography and camera moves but with Lean and his classmates replaced by strangers, pets, celebrities, and worse. Many of the clips were made with a tool called Genjutsu, which was released in late August by the AI video company Higgsfield. As the trend took off, other AI apps began offering ready-made “Storm” templates of their own. It’s a glimpse of a future in which people can lift an artist’s style, or even their entire personality, as easily as they once downloaded mp3s. Gavras finds it “fascinating and depressing — it’s like Prometheus stealing the fire.” Read the full story: nymag.visitlink.me/6-cKhK

Whatever Sharjeel wrote, or writes, disagree with him, fine, but he writes it in his own name while still imprisoned. Shekhar Gupta wants to "kick up a storm" platforming an anonymous person who can fire any criticism of Indian muslims, demonising them, without being accountible!
1/5 Sharjeel Imam has given an interview detailing his Islamist manifesto. Surprisingly, no storm has been kicked up over pronouncements that are so unapologetically anti-liberal, anti-secular, anti-democracy, anti-Constitution—in a word, anti-national. 2/5 He openly calls the Constitution fascist, labels secularism a trap, and denounces democracy as a contrivance to deny Muslims their political rights. 3/5 The piece is a litany of indictments against the liberal class. Imam rejects any difference between liberals and Hindutvadis. In his essentialist worldview, all Hindus are the same, unanimous in denying Muslims political power they claim as a divine right. 4/5 Inadvertently, Sharjeel has recognised something that liberals have been fighting shy of acknowledging: that Hindutva’s idea of India is anchored in the same “overarching nationalist framework”— that Muslims are Indians above all else. 5/5 For more, read this Opinion article by Ibn Khaldun Bharati, who looks at Islam from an Indian perspective: Sharjeel Imam’s Islamist manifesto will be forgotten. The silence of liberals will not theprint.in/opinion/sharjeel…

Running became a symbolic act of resistance at the protests, eluding the authorities, tiring and embarrassing them. This being India, the endless recutting and remixing of these runs came wrapped in cinema livemint.com/mint-lounge/art…

. @mrajshekhar is an exceptional reporter, as witness the ground reporting that resulted in the book Despite The State. He was in Delhi, chronicling the protests, when the police detained him. What happens when the doors of the bus close on the detainees is the theme of this superb essay: newslaundry.com/2026/10/14/w…

To attack, heckle or abuse field reporters doing their job is condemnable. Protesters do their cause a disservice by targeting journalists reporting live when tempers are running high. The right to protest and the right to report on it are both essential freedoms — neither should come at the cost of intimidation or abuse. Proud of NDTV’s army of reporters, holding firm and telling the story calmly and confidently, undeterred by the noise and abuse around them. In solidarity with the right to report, to protest and to express without fear of vilification or abuse. @ndtv

Fantastic books in the NIF Book Prize 2026 longlist. And I was lucky to have four of them talk about these books on the @IdeasofIndia podcast. @narayani_basu @snigdhapoonam @itihaasnaama @OrnitShani @arvindsubraman See the list of episodes 👇
(1/11) A forgotten diplomat who helped shape India's place in the world. A khayal singer most of the country has never heard of. An empire of fraud running out of small towns. A constitution that was argued over in the streets long before it was written in a hall. Ten books with almost nothing in common, except that each one leaves you knowing something about this country you did not know before.
