No hay palabras de consuelo; no hay absolutamente nada que mitigue este sentimiento repleto de tristeza. Estamos junto a su desolada familia, junto a sus seres queridos, junto a todo el tinerfeñismo que hoy llora por este cruel desenlace.

Lionel Messi has received the 2026 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports.
The two-time Laureus World Sportsman of the Year is recognised for his extraordinary career and impact beyond the field, and is the first individual footballer to receive both honours.

It’s actually crazy how big the Ballon d’Or is. Without a doubt, the biggest individual award in the history of sports.
Over the years, especially after certain ceremonies, we’ve heard people trying to downplay its importance. “It’s just an award given by a magazine”, “Nobody cares about it anymore”, “It’s overrated” and so on.
And let’s be real, a lot of that criticism only started because people weren’t happy with the results. They couldn’t accept seeing one player achieve things their favourite player couldn’t, including dominating the most prestigious individual award in football.
But here’s the funny part.
Despite all the attempts to discredit the Ballon d’Or, just look at what happens before every ceremony. For the past five months, fans here have been debating almost every single day about who’s going to win it. The predictions, the arguments, the fake rumours... It’s one of the biggest talking points in football, and the same thing happens every single year.
That alone tells you everything you need to know about how much this award means.
And at the end of the day, the king of football, Lionel Messi, is also the king of the Ballon d’Or. Eight wins. More than anyone else in history.

People don’t even understand this Princess award, they think its a normal award.
They are even joking with it.
This is an award that Nelson Mandela has won o.
Its not just a sports award. It recognizes outstanding performances across many fields including, Science, Literature, and arts.
That’s why you’re seeing Kings and Queens and prime ministers present at the award.
Do you see ishowspeed there?
No, because its not a football award where anyone can come.

🚨🥹 Leo Messi: "In fact, my father was extremely excited about this award.
"We knew it would be difficult because of my match schedule, but he really insisted that we come, that I travel here to spend these days and receive the award.
"This award goes beyond what you do on the pitch or what I've achieved throughout my career.
"Honestly, he was very happy about this recognition and that's why I'm sure he's enjoying it too.”
