@3SimpleRules

The friction of being stuck - while others make progress - is lonely & isolating. I help 9to5ers use what they already know to unlock their untapped potential.

Reacting is about responding. As part of that reaction we wish we had said something different. Just over a year ago I wrote an atomic essay about this idea.

What a brilliant list Ricky. I was never that adventuresome in my 20s. Don't know if you've come across @DavidEpstein he wrote a brilliant book called Range that talks to this style of 'sampling'. PS — Happy Birthday PSS — He's got a TEDx talk… youtube.com/watch?v=BQ2_Bwqc…

What we have here is a self-licking ice cream cone.
An image of an ice cream cone with eyes, a mouth and a tongue. It is licking itself to stop the drips. Image was designed by zee-io and found on Redbubble.

Behaviourally if you find 'working on productivity' highly reinforcing then you'll end up doing more of it.😀 You're productive but to what end? To break free — Check in w/ higher level strategy or values. What matters to you? Increases likelihood you'll behave as intended.😎
Title: Where is your behaviour taking you? Graphic is read from bottom to the top, and represents a vertical arrow leading to a “fork in the road” graphic. Here is a description of the detailed flow. Starting point - Situation you’re facing. This leads to - Automatic habitual reaction is triggered. This leads to - A Choice Point, (fork in road). Turn left is moving away. Turn right is moving towards what matters to you. Source: Joseph Ciarrochi, Ann Bailey, and Russ Harris, Choice Point Model, 2013

Clint…Creating aha moments works best by observing cast of characters & the dynamic they engage in. Then ideas emerge of how to intervene. One example - Measure the minute by minute behaviours. Then feedback observational data about how they interact around specific topics.
Title: Measuring Minute by Minute Meeting Behaviour. Subtitle: What’s really goes on in the meeting? The image is a scan of a template used to record minute by minute meeting behaviour. Image of a silent timer used to buzz the person recording the data. List of data being captured. Is the issue on the agenda? Who is talking? Boss, peer group under boss, lower level, guest, higher up than boss. What are they saying? Statement, (After a statement) Comment, Question, Answer, Clarification, Interruption. Focus of content: The past, next two weeks, the future. Action: Action clearly stated? Assigned? Recorded? Source: Bruce Faulkner, 3 Simple Rules, 2008

Early in a career you wonder how people see problems coming. Later you notice people who prevent problems from happening. Then you meet people who make you think, “I wish I’d said that.” That’s when it’s time to rely less on your tech skills and develop your business acumen.
Graphic showing two sigmoid curves over time. First S curve is the growth of technical skills. The start of the second curve represents that time for a transformation to develop your business acumen. Drawing by Bruce Faulkner @3SimpleRules on twitter.
