A taxpayer-funded event. Politicians from every level of government. An announcement about taxpayer dollars flowing to a municipality, in the middle of a mayoral race in which the premier has publicly made his preference clear.
Styled like a news conference, without the media.
Premier Doug Ford is in Mississauga this morning to announce $401.4 million in federal and provincial funding from the development charge reduction program.
There was no media advisory for this announcement, and media weren’t invited to attend.

Just a timely reminder that freedom of the press is a fundamental, constitutionally protected, feature of our democracy.
The comments expressed by the Premier above are, unfortunately, shared by those at the highest levels in the Premier’s Office — a feeling of distain that is felt almost daily.

The latest news about Metrolinx raises serious questions about transparency and oversight. Time and again, the Ford government spends public money without accountability and expects Ontarians to foot the bill without asking questions.

Average length of a Queen's Park sitting year since 1974: ~85 days
Average excluding election years: ~92 days
2026 sitting calendar to date + remaining per Standing Orders: 53 days
Replying to @jm_mcgrath
From 1990-2025 most years outside of elections see the house sit for something like 70-90 days; election years have seen as few as 40 sitting days (1995) but 2022, for example, saw 69 sitting days despite having an election that spring.
