Late night pondering while lying in bed listening to music. This year finds me now one year older than my mom ever was and my youngest son now one year older than his older brother ever was. There's a lot of emotion in that realisation.

A 92-year-old man was recently target of a targeted drink-spiking incident in a rural Irish pub, an act believed to have been carried out by individuals purely to humiliate him. Intoxicated by the unknown substance, the shaken pensioner had to be brought home by the pub owner and was so traumatised by the ordeal that he no longer visits his local pub. Highlighted in the Dáil by Sinn Féin TD Mark Ward, this heartbreaking incident exposes a dark cruelty where people's bodily autonomy is violated simply "for a group's amusement". In response, new legislation—the Spiking Offences Bill 2026—has been introduced, proposing a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison to ensure spiking is recognized as a standalone criminal offence. The bill also demands mandatory toxicology testing in Garda stations and clinical settings to help victims get justice, as none of the 278 reported spiking cases since 2022 have resulted in a conviction under current laws. #HumanRightsDoNotGrowOld #Spiking #MarkWard #Horrific irishexaminer.com/news/arid-…?
