I’m deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Patrick, he was great man not only mentoring me but many other young voices in today’s right-wing spheres.
A great man lost far too soon, RIP 🕊️
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our friend, committed conservative, and longtime Turning Point UK adviser, Patrick Timms (@Ephelyon).
Patrick passed away this morning after a long and courageous battle with a rare disease.
Patrick had supported Turning Point UK since 2019. Having previously served as our Chief Technical Officer, he more recently became the driving force behind our website, generously giving his time and expertise to support our mission.
Beyond his work with us, Patrick undertook undercover investigations to expose far-left organisations and activists, including Momentum, climate activists, the Socialist Workers Party, and prominent political figures such as Jeremy Corbyn and Diane Abbott. His investigations into political extremism received national media coverage. As a result of his work, Patrick was violently attacked by leftist thugs, yet he refused to be intimidated and remained committed to exposing those he believed threatened our democracy and values.
Patrick was also proud of his regular appearances on @TalkTV and his Wolves of Westminster (@WoWestminster) project. He generously mentored many young conservatives, encouraging and supporting the next generation of activists.
Patrick's passion, courage, and unwavering commitment to his beliefs earned him the respect and friendship of many across the conservative movement. He will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Patrick's family and loved ones at this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
Another dystopian measure, how long until this is used to suppress protestors or government critics?
Labour’s authoritarian creep is becoming a leap.

Paying back a loan with a credit card…
This is a short term plan that will be financed by future taxpayers. We shouldn’t be putting ourselves in more debt for things that won’t earn more than they cost.
Your share of Shell’s business rates this year is £2.06 million, I think they’ve paid more than enough to fund whatever nonsense you want to do.
Customer service jobs are surely filled already?

So instead of allowing our own refineries to refine by cutting the huge amounts of regulation imposed on them Healey would rather tax foreign imports increasing the cost of fuel for everyone.
Utterly backward thinking once again.
🚨 NEW: John Healey is reportedly considering imposing a "green tax" on imported fuel like petrol and diesel in the Budget

Minister: "Both Andy and John have decided Rosebank needs to go ahead. The economic and energy security case is so strong"

Genuinely unbelievable that an MP would write this, any tax on business is ultimately paid by people, workers, consumers, investors etc, it may directly cause the price to increase, or it may deter investment and decrease the production of a product thus increasing the price.
This is basic stuff.
Nope, that’s not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply.
Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a company’s cost ie supply.
Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Corporate profit taxes do not directly shift marginal costs but empirical studies show partial pass-through into higher consumer prices. Windfall taxes on oil and gas have deterred investment and production in practice despite theoretical efficiency on rents.

It seems Labour’s growth plan is to rob your bank account with draconian measures.
HMRC can’t be trusted with these powers, no one can, this is a concerning move from Labour.
If you sold the Crown Estate (£16.7bn + profits already go to the Treasury), the Royal Family assets (~£0.7-£1.8bn), and the two Duchies (~£1.8bn) you’d get ~£18bn-£20bn, enough to fund the UK for less than a week.
Not to mention you gain more by having the crown estate continue to give its profits to the treasury.
Badenoch isn’t wrong, there’s a reason gas power plants have to be on when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing.
There simply isn’t enough power provided by renewables to power the whole grid. It will take years before the grid can properly support renewables, fossil fuels are what keep the lights on at the moment.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has told @BBCBreakfast that she doesn't believe there are enough clean energy reserves available for the UK to stop using gas and oil
