This is pure wisdom. Burying in the family house often freezes the property and leaves the living struggling while the dead has no use for it. Cemeteries exist for a reason, let assets work for the people still breathing.
Many families in Nigeria (and elsewhere) face the same tension between custom and practicality; choosing rest for the dead and progress for the living avoids turning grief into a long-term financial burden on children and spouses.
When I die, everything I have should be used for the benefit of family who are alive. Sell the property if you must. Invest in your education, start a business, lock money in the money market. Live well.
I don't see how burying me in the house I built serves me when I'm dead or serves my family who are alive. I will not use my death to punish the living by reducing the value of the house I built, in the name of "bury me in my house." There are good cemetery all around. Bury me with the dead. I have lived my life, live your own life.
Live well and pass it on to the next generation. If my wife wants the kids and grand kids to be visiting her there, good. If she sells it, fine. If she passes it down to the kids, fine. If the kids sell it, fine too.
The only thing that concerns me after death is REST.

Please, don’t put yourself under pressure to have a big wedding.
Do a beautiful, high quality photoshoot in your wedding outfits. Go to court, get your church blessing the same day, then pick another day for the traditional wedding in the bride’s family home, with just close family.
Use the money you would have spent on an extravagant wedding to travel for your honeymoon, buy a house, start a business, or invest in your future.
Remember, the wedding is one day, but the marriage is what you’ll live every day.
Don’t spend millions trying to impress people who may not even genuinely wish you well.
Celebrate your love, not people’s expectations. ❤️
