The Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations has called for stronger human oversight of artificial intelligence (AI) in justice systems, warning that the adoption of digital technologies must not undermine accountability, fairness or the public’s right to challenge decisions. Ministry Executive Director Audrin Mathe said justice institutions must ensure that responsibility for decisions remains with people, even as AI is increasingly used to improve administrative processes and service delivery. Speaking at the 2026 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Global Roundtable on Equal Access to Justice in Istanbul, Türkiye, on Wednesday, Mathe said the use of AI should be transparent and subject to appropriate safeguards. “Responsibility cannot be delegated to an algorithm. People should know when AI is used. They should be able to challenge an outcome. Higher risk requires stronger oversight,” he said. thebrief.com.na/2026/10/govt… #namibia #technology #ai #justicesystem #accountability @MOJLRNAM @MICTNamibia @AudrinMathe @EmmaTheofelus

Please, I’ll not be part of this conversation. I too want to become a director in government like our friends @toys_ndjebela and @AudrinMathe.🙈🤣
Maybe we need to take a page from their book.. it could possibly help with the free education conundrum we are facing

NO! I’d say there are equally passionate professionals elsewhere. The long hours are largely because we have a shortage of doctors in GRN. The GP sector is becoming saturated, so most GPs face different pressures. The answer is to train more doctors and level the playing field.

I agree Tate Mathe. I did not mean the “whatever they’re asking” in the literal sense 😅. But rather they deserve what they get and possibly a bit more 👀. I believe that professions like Police officers, teachers, nurses and doctors, should be motivated more by passion not money

Namibia has accepted 255 recommendations from United Nations member states following the adoption of its fourth-cycle Universal Periodic Review outcome at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Delivering the opening statement at the council’s 63rd session, Executive Director of the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations, Audrin Mathe, outlined national progress in education, gender equality and social protection. According to Dr Mathe, 95% of children aged six to 16 now attend school. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to increase the representation of women in leadership positions and combat human trafficking. Mathe added that the accepted recommendations would be aligned with national development plans and Vision 2030. Addressing the 35 recommendations noted rather than accepted by the government, Mathe explained that the decision does not signify disagreement with their underlying human rights principles. Instead, it reflects legal, constitutional or policy considerations requiring further national consultation. The executive director acknowledged challenges related to poverty, unemployment and violence, reaffirming that addressing them remains a government priority. At the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council, we reaffirmed Namibia’s commitment to advancing human rights through the Universal Periodic Review process. We supported 255 of the 290 recommendations received, which will be integrated into our National Implementation Plan and aligned with NDP6 and Vision 2030. We highlighted progress in women’s empowerment, social protection, education and equality, while recommitting ourselves to addressing gender-based violence, poverty, unemployment and inequality. We also shared that Namibia recently held its first-ever State of Justice Summit, reinforcing our commitment to building an efficient, accessible and trusted justice sector for all. We remain committed to dialogue, cooperation and meaningful implementation so that human-rights progress translates into improved lives for all. #Namibia #HumanRights #UPR #UNHumanRightsCouncil #Justice #NDP6 #RuleOfLaw

NUDO MP Vetaruhe Kandorozu is calling on Namibian businesses, public enterprises and individuals to increase their contributions to Cuba, saying the N$700,000 raised so far does not reflect Cuba’s historical support for Namibia. Kandorozu wants the fundraising campaign to exceed N$1 million, citing Cuba’s role during Namibia’s liberation struggle and its post-independence assistance in health, sport and technical expertise. He says businesses in sectors such as fishing, mining, construction and pharmaceuticals, as well as public enterprises, should make larger contributions to the campaign. Kandorozu also proposes that Namibia consider donating government resources to Cuba, while acknowledging the country’s fiscal pressures and rising public debt. He points to Cuba’s involvement in the 1988 Battle of Cuito Cuanavale and its subsequent assistance to Namibia as reasons for what he describes as a reciprocal obligation to support Cuba during its current economic difficulties.
