His body was found a short time after his owner claimed on Facebook he had gone 'missing' A man believed to be 32-year-old convicted child abuser* Kane Smith aka Kane Burton (pictured) previously of Magdalen Close, Norwich, has been arrested on suspicion of abduction of a dog, causing unnecessary suffering and criminal damage. Smith is believed to be the partner of Bear's owner. He was taken to #Wymondham Police Station for questioning and has since been released on police bail while investigations continue. A police spokeswoman said: "We would like to reassure the public that officers are continuing to investigate and establish the circumstances around what happened to the dog. "Police were called on 5 May 2025 to reports that a dog had sadly been found dead in the area of Bull Close Road. "The dog was reported to have been stolen sometime overnight between 1 May - 2 May 2025 from a property on Magdalen Close." News of the incident quickly spread across Norwich community groups on Facebook, with many calling for justice. Tye Smyth created a Facebook group (link below) aimed at seeking justice for Bear, which at the time of writing has 692 members. Tye says he handed Bear’s body to police and the #RSPCA as evidence. Describing the condition of the dog's body, he said: “I could see six to seven stab wounds. “His head was caved in, and he was black and blue around his belly." Officers say they are working with the RSPCA and carrying out house-to-house and CCTV enquiries.
