Hope you both had a cracking night, Martin. The tie suits you, keep it handy for the knighthood 😉

Not often I wear a tie, but it's Pride of Britain tonight, so I thought it only right. And sorry Lara, but I've got the best date tonight, that's what happens when you go away. Taking my georgous daughter with me.
Really looking forward to it, never been before. I suspect we will be in tears more than once

Some people leave more than an empty chair. They leave conversations unfinished, memories that bring smiles and tears, and a future that will never be lived. Ann was one of those people. Today, we remember her life, her humanity and everything she meant to those who knew her.

A wonderful evening at the British Library with the Royal Literary Fund celebrating the centenary of Winnie the Pooh. In the best company, my friend Alan played Eyore for us brilliantly and I led the singing of "Happy Birthday Winnie the Pooh." 🎈

A happy evening with @mrdanwalker - he challenged me to do a plank with him on live TV. I managed. Just.
Tonight I’m listening to @therosebudpod - with Ian Rankin (brilliant) and my diaries from 1980 (fun).
Tomorrow I’m celebrating the 100th birthday of Winnie the Pooh!

Has anyone else ever just stopped to admire the cracking craftsmanship here?
These are the spectacular Art Nouveau gates of the Philharmonic pub on Hope Street, Liverpool. Designed by Henry Bloomfield Bare, the intricate wrought iron and beaten copper work is widely considered among the finest examples of Art Nouveau in England.
When you look closely at the details, you can spot the female heads, floral garlands, and the Robert Cain & Sons Brewery emblem. They even feature the Latin motto "Pacem Amo" meaning "I love peace". It's architectural gems like this that makes documenting the city's history so rewarding.

Jeffrey Archer has died at the age of 86. This very old photo taken in 1985 after I had interviewed him for the radio.

I’ve written a piece celebrating Esther Rantzen for the Sunday Times. She crackled with energy. Whenever she was around, there was laughter & achievement in the air. I was lucky to know her for more than 50 years with never a cross word & lots of laughs. Rest in peace Esther.

Today would have been Ann’s 79th birthday. Thinking of her today, with enormous affection and gratitude.

I’ve just tried calling 01-811-8055. The number isn’t recognised now. Shame.
