Matt makes a good argument for ending IZ here in DC here. Only thing I'd add: It has driven up market rents while also adding a pathetically small number of affordable units — somewhere under 5,000 in 17 years.

The Republican governor of Alaska knows what he's saying is nonsense.
Not only is ballot stacking legal (if icky), and not only do Republicans do it, but they're doing it in this cycle! In Alaska!
@Senate_Fund spent ~$500K to get a Green Party guy in Arizona to run in Alaska.
Today’s New York Times reporting reveals disturbing new evidence of an organized effort to manipulate Alaska’s elections by recruiting candidates—including one with the same name as an incumbent U.S. Senator—to deliberately confuse voters and misdirect their votes. The Alaska Division of Elections investigated these very concerns in June of this year. The new reporting substantially supports the Division’s findings.
I am therefore directing the Department of Public Safety to investigate whether this scheme violated Alaska’s laws and whether criminal charges or civil action are warranted. The evidence will determine what happens next.
Alaskans have a fundamental right to vote for the candidate they actually intend to support. Deliberately tricking voters into casting their ballots for someone else strikes at the integrity of our elections.
Anyone or any organization found to have broken the law must be held accountable.

Once again, fake claims of election tampering are followed by actual abuses of power. There's zero potential crime here. Alaska voters are more than entitled to punish Peltola or Dems for this funny business. It's perfectly legal to get people to run for office. This is a joke.

More background on Vivek’s guy
Amy Acton's stepfather's surviving biological daughter spoke to The Daily Mail when they knocked on her door in Ohio, while sobbing.
She said: She believed Amy's story, because her father raped her sister more than once (the victim in this 1974 indictment); she remembered Amy lived in a tent with Donna and Cledith; it's been terrible for her family to see Vivek's ad run in Ohio; and she heard rumors her father had victimized even more young girls.

As the voters continue to vote for democrats over Republicans, Jack down by 14 points, Nancy Munoz and Michele Matsikoudis gone, Hathaway loss, some republicans say to me “it’s all fraudulent voting”…not true….if we don’t recognize the real problem, we can’t fix it.

The butthurt handling of this primary defeat by Haley Stevens and now her fiance after they had tens of millions in outside money spent on her behalf is appalling. The next SecDef or a Trump SCOTUS judge is on the line here! Totally pathetic & reveals that the loss was deserved

Every day we learn about a new kind of social conservative.
YIKES! It seems @Justinjpearson’s TN-9 opponent state senator @BrentTaylorTN has a history of sending unsolicited nude pics to people who are not his wife.
(No wonder Trump wants him in congress)

Listened to Nate Silver on Ezra this morning. One of the least popular things I could do on this website is defend Nate Silver, so challenge accepted.
His "vibes" have been directionally correct in every Election. In 2012, he fought against the polling unskewers making claims that Romney would win based on undersampling of Republicans.
In 2016, his model was famously FAR more bullish on Trump than any others. He was the only modeler who understood the possibility of correlated polling error.
In 2020, he repeatedly emphasized the higher than usual uncertainty due to the pandemic.
In 2022, he fought back against pollsters (NY Times!) basically ignoring their own data to buy into the Red Wave.
In 2024, he said that even though his model was 50/50, his gut said Trump would win.
All in all, a better record than anyone else on Election Twitter.

“When Maria did not immediately respond, the agents shattered her car window, forcibly removed her from the vehicle and threw her to the ground, causing numerous injuries,” the statement said.
As she was on the ground, the agents dumped out her purse, found her U.S. passport and left the scene, according to SEIU.

Another season over. Striped bass are one of the most badass fish on the planet and they’re being horribly mismanaged because of greed and incompetence. This is my annual PSA that stripers are in trouble—they should be managed as a game fish and designated catch-and-release only.

“Ossoff’s tenure at the production company served as a kind of unconventional apprenticeship in the workings of the modern attention economy. It was there, his colleagues say, that he first came to grasp the potency of corruption as a political issue and mastered the craft of turning anti-corruption investigations into effective political entertainment.”
