‘Proudly made in Stoke on Trent, England’. Seeing this teapot in Fortnum and Mason’s, London, absolutely made my day yesterday. My parents were from Stoke and I didn’t know they still made pottery there. Last time I went there, it was very sadly a town in decline. A beautiful product made by great people in England and sold for the price it should be, not dirt cheap junk from China.

On this day 26 August 1959, the Mini "Mark I" was officially announced to the world, with public displays in 100 countries. Produced by the British Motor Corporation, it appeared under both its brands, "the Morris Mini-Minor" and the "Austin Se7en".
Since then, the Mini has become a British icon, and especially of the popular culture of the 1960s.
The last Mini rolled off the line at Longbridge on 4 October 2000, and was presented to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. A total of 5,387,862 Minis were built, with nearly 1.6 million sold in the UK.
Today, the design lives on (approximately) in BMW's retro-styled supermini range.
