After Rosenior’s sacking, we spent the majority of our time loading up this app and propping Xabi Alonso. EVERYBODY wanted him as our new Manager. I’ve never seen a fanbase recover from a loss so quickly (FA Cup against Manchester City) after the announcement of Xabi. PLEASE, remember how frustrating last season was and how badly we wanted our new Gaffer. Give him the time he deserves, because his resumé speaks for itself.
Don’t follow the pack with this “sheep” mentality. It’s okay to be different and provide an objective perspective.
Do you guys remember when the Xabi Alonso links first broke? Everyone was so baffled by the news that a lot of people thought it was just PR from the Club… Guys, PLEASE remember how excited we all were when his appointment as Manager (!) was confirmed. He’s been in charge for 10 matches. Give him the time that he deserves and we’ll all be happy Chelsea fans.
Xabi Alonso has an invincible, League winning season on his resumé. In a League that had 11x winners in a row, Bayern Munich. Mind you, at a Club where it didn’t click for Leverkusen right away either. A lot of us are the last people who should be questioning someone like him. Look at his resumé as a player… He’s a WINNER. Born for a Club like Chelsea.
Ultimately, we don’t know what style of football Xabi Alonso wants to play, because it’s only been 10 matches. Sure, we saw Enzo Maresca’s possession based football straight away, but context is important. Not every manager will get a “response” from their team as soon as they take over. Some philosophies are more detailed than others, which is what we’re seeing going from Rosenior/Maresca to Xabi.
Develop a bit of patience and your life as a football fan will change. There’s no reason to be asking for Xabi’s job and if you are, this sport isn’t for you. We can’t keep doing the same things over and over and over again. Trust a manager, give him time, and results will be inevitable.
This REALLY hurts. We won’t look as bad as we did against Tottenham again, but you could tell how much the team was missing João Pedro throughout that entire match. Maybe we’ll start to see Emegha make an impact? He’s a very unique profile, with a lot of “boom” potential.
As discussed before, Jordan Henderson x Caicedo has looked like a VERY solid partnership. A player like Alex Scott next to Moi will improve our football, both in and out of possession, by a large margin (no disrespect towards Hendo, as he almost covers the most ground on our team).
Alex also has the right mentality Xabi Alonso’s looking for, adding to our great additions to the squad over the summer. This is an incredibly exciting deal.
This Alex Scott news is HUGE. I know some of us are tired of transfers and just want to see results on the field, but signings like this will help us find our feet again. He’s the perfect midfielder for Xabi Alonso and I’m happy to hear that he’s approved of our pursuit. How does everyone else feel? £100m is a crazy valuation, but unfortunately, this is today’s market.
£90m for Alex Scott and I’m happy.
Estevao, Cole Palmer, and João Pedro are the three players who come to mind. We have a LOT of work to do as a team, though, if we want to make this a reality. Champions League x League success is a must and we just haven’t seen this since our last UCL trophy (not even League).
I think the biggest surprise from the Tottenham result is how quickly some people in the Chelsea fanbase flip flopped. They were singing Xabi’s praises less than 7 days ago, after beating Bournemouth and Everton. Now, he needs to be sacked or is on “fraud” watch. These people talk about “standards” when in reality, their low attention span (impatience) is kicking in. If you GENUINELY want what’s best for the Club, then Xabi Alonso should not be sacked.
One thing the Tottenham result showed me is that we DESPERATELY need Alex Scott in this team. He’ll help us maintain possession and will provide more athleticism next to Caicedo. Henderson has been great, considering the context, but no doubt about Alex being the better player.
We should never be losing at home to Tottenham in the manner that we did, but we need to be self aware. It could be better, but we sit in a good position. A rollercoaster season is inevitable with a new manager who plays meticulous football (in a good way) at the helm. It’s important we respond in a positive manner by putting together a good performance against Liverpool.
What are your early season thoughts? Should we be worried after the Tottenham result, or are we pretty calm?
Xabi Alonso single handedly ended Bayern Munich’s 11 year Bundesliga run with Leverkusen. All while going invincible. Xabi in “big” games is the LAST thing I’m worried about.
Xabi Alonso in big matches as a manager:
❌ 0-2 vs Spurs
❌ 1-2 vs Arsenal
❌ 2-3 vs Barcelona
✅ 2-1 vs Atlético Madrid
❌ 1-2 vs Man City
❌ 0-1 vs Liverpool
✅ 2-1 vs Barcelona
❌ 2-5 vs Atlético Madrid
❌ 0-4 vs PSG
❌ 2-4 vs Dortmund
❌ 0-2 vs Bayern
❌ 0-3 vs Bayern
❌ 0-4 vs Liverpool
❌ 0-3 vs Atalanta
14 big matches. 2 wins. 12 losses.
Embarrassing.
Look at the reactions under this post. PLEASE, do not let your emotions get the best of you. Xabi Alonso is the Manager we all wanted most and now, it’s up to us to back him through dire times. One loss won’t change my mind about him.
Think objectively, not subjectively.
🚨 BREAKING: Xabi Alonso has accepted to become Chelsea next manager, HERE WE GO! 🔵🔜
The agreement is set to be completed.
#CFC prepare official announcement for the upcoming days, but Xabi said YES. 💣
This isn’t the “old” Clearlake that we’ve seen since they took over. In the summer, we saw statements of intent with the signings we were making. Morgan Rogers, Emi, Welbeck, Henderson, Palestra, etc… We’re clearly backing the Gaffer. Greatness takes TIME, which is what Xabi Alonso needs and deserves.
Enough of this lack of composure nonsense. It’s okay to question Xabi, but to call for his job lest than 10 matches into the season is absurd.
