Trump tries to talk oil prices back down… again
With Brent surging above $109 and U.S. diesel hitting record highs, Trump is suddenly flooding the market with promises of de-escalation.
First, he announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop striking each other’s energy infrastructure. Now he says Iran wants a deal “quickly and badly” and that Washington is open to engaging.
The market is becoming a political problem for Trump and he clearly wants people to believe relief is coming.

Now, Iran and Yemeni Ansar Allah are the two most powerful countries in the region. Furthermore, Iran has become a global Superpower. Together they control the shipping lanes of 30% of Global Energy Supply, forever. Saudi can no longer export any oil unless they get permission from The Houthis.
And if they don’t make a deal soon they won’t have the ability to produce any oil because the Houthis can destroy their pipelines, ports, tanker ships, oil wells, refineries, and oil stabilization facilities in only a couple of days. And nobody can stop them.
Then we are talking about a global catastrophe with widespread famine, civil wars, and a global depression.

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.
The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible - but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.

The Amish are threatening a mass exodus from New York over the vaccine fight.
The Amish population in NY is around 25,000 people.
NY is insisting that their children receive between 24 and 27 jabs to attend school.
Their schools, which have zero State or even Federal funding, refused to comply on religious grounds.
Their schools have already incurred $118,000 in fines for failing to comply.
The fight now heads to the Supreme Court, and I pray for their victory.
I do have one question: as NY is a sanctuary state, are they forcing all the illegals to get these jabs, or do they get a pass and just cash?

BREAKING: The US Government officially posts its largest July budget deficit in history, at -$432 billion, due to an acceleration in federal spending.
Interest on US debt rose +$26 billion from last July's levels to an alarming $118 billion for the month.
This puts total interest expense for FY2026 up to $1.17 trillion in FY2026.
As a result, interest expense has officially surpassed both National Defense and Medicare spending.
In other words, the US government now spends more money just on interest than it does to fund the entire US Military or to provide healthcare for seniors.
We cannot afford higher interest rates.
