Chicago City Wire put out a projection of the Chicago 2027 mayor race, based on the UChicago Mansueto poll and historic voting and demographic patterns. Their model projects a Giannoulias v. Johnson runoff. Giannoulias: 38% Johnson: 20% Mendoza: 12%

I’ve never met a more capable candidate for elected office than Victor Henderson. A person with the organizational and managerial skills to lead the Board, Henderson’s candidacy brings one quality, besides competency, his opponents lack: Complete Independence! The essence of his bid to lead the Chicago School Board Henderson is untainted by any outside influence which would compel him to bend in any direction other than his determination to guarantee that the district makes school children and their families the number one priority. Chicago needs educational leaders that will work hard to make sure that the city’s children flourish in the classroom and not “fall in line” to the interests of the CTU.

Mayor Johnson was asked about the new gunshot technology pilot today and he lied repeatedly in his answer. Oddly, @ChicagosMayor first claimed how ShotSpotter failed his "moral standards." How ShotSpotter was a "moral failure" he chose not to explain. Yet, here is where the mayor lied: He claimed ShotSpotter was sold as a violence reduction tool. This is a blatant lie. ShotSpotter was introduced in 2018 for the purpose of detecting the fullest range of gunfire and collecting data to assist CPD define the scope of illegal gunfire. ShotSpotter reduced response time, allowed CPD to collect and preserve evidence and provided critical information for better, more timely resource allocation. Most importantly, it safeguarded CPD responding to an area at which ShotSpotter detected gunfire. ShotSpotter was never marketed as a lifesaving device nor a crime reduction mechanism. Johnson pulled the plug on ShotSpotter in a capitulation to activist groups known for their hostility to CPD.

Mayor Brandon Johnson’s con game continues into its fourth budget.   If Mayor Johnson’s budget is approved, it means his tax and fee increases in office amount to $1.3 billion while his school board has raised property taxes another $857 million.   The burden imposed by Johnson’s tax and fee increases are not on rich corporations, billionaires and millionaires as he claims. It falls on city residents, regardless of income, and on city businesses of all sizes regardless of their income or profits.    Even his so-called progressive spending agenda side is a shell game.    Despite all his big promises, the Mayor has only reopened 3 mental health centers, built only 500 affordable housing units, has barely returned the summer jobs program to pre-COVID levels and his vaunted mental health initiatives has seen a 70% drop in the number of responses.
